This project aims to accelerate the development of a next-generation floating offshore wind platform design that addresses some critical industry challenges: 1️⃣ High production and installation costs 2️⃣ Complex supply chain logistics 3️⃣ Limited availability of suitable sites 4️⃣ Environmental impact of traditional platforms The new platform technology tested during the project will enable more cost-competitive floating offshore wind projects over the coming decades. The patented platform design improves turbine stability by reducing pitch and balance movement in high wind, wave and tidal conditions, while its modular design allows for more cost-effective fabrication. https://lnkd.in/dud5qiBY #offshorewind #floatingoffshorewind #windenergy #offshoretechnology #floatingwind #offshoreenergy #sustainabletechnology

It'll be very interesting to see how this does. 🌟 Wind Catching Demo, a subsidiary of Wind Catching Systems, has secured a NOK 1.2 billion (EUR 102 million) grant from Enova to deploy a 40 MW commercial demonstrator of its multi-turbine floating wind platform off the coast of Norway. 🎯 The project, featuring one Windcatcher unit with 40 turbines, aims to validate the technology’s efficiency and cost-effectiveness by 2029. The grant is conditional on meeting the progress plan, including licensing and final investment approval. Wind Catching Systems previously received key regulatory approvals and grants, with its technology designed for longevity, efficiency, and reduced space usage. #offshorewind #offshore #windenergy #renewableenergy #floatingwind

⚡ For the first time in offshore wind history, a multirotor wall will be built on a floating platform in the sea! 📍The groundbreaking initiative Wind Catching Systems demonstration project will be installed northwest of Bergen, #Norway. 📅 The project is scheduled to be completed during 2029. ⚙️ The multirotor wall concept shows a completely new approach to floating offshore wind, compared to traditional wind turbines that have one large turbine. This can lead to reduced maintenance costs and better utilisation of offshore wind acreage. 💵 The project will receive NOK 1.2 billion (estimate US$ 120) in support through Enova's competition for support for small-scale commercial offshore wind projects. #EPCProjects #Innovation #OffshoreWind

The floating platform for offshore wind developed by French company BW Ideol over the past few years has been standardised and will go into mass production in what the company calls its ’new market approach’. The approach was unveiled to a panel of utilities and partners at a recent event in Marseille, where the company said its plans were in line with the phase of industrialization that was happening in the sector, with 22GW awarded in Scotland, 8GW in the US and more awarded or inviting tenders elsewhere. Essentially it means that BW Ideol would identify suitable ports and install its manufacturing production line there – from where it could produce one floating foundation a week, said Salomé Roussy, communications officer at BW Ideol. “A single production line can support several projects within the same area,” Roussy said. “For instance, BW Ideol has already secured strategic access to the Port of Ardersier in Scotland. This production line could supply floating foundations for all of Scotland. Read more on Maritime Journal; https://lnkd.in/euhRb75d

EERA - The European Energy Research Alliance DeepWind 2025 conference took place this week in the Norwegian city of Trondheim. The event is a hub for the latest research and innovation in offshore wind energy. Organized by SINTEF Energy Research, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), and EERA JP Wind, the event brought together leading experts in offshore wind to share knowledge and discuss challenges ahead, displaying the most advanced research papers in the field. It was a real privilege to attend on behalf of Naturgy and be part of such forward-thinking community for a few days. An urgent call was made for researchers and academics to intensify and accelerate innovation in offshore wind, especially floating wind. To meet the ambitious targets for commercial floating capacity in the coming decades, we need to move faster. Recent awards in public tenders - such as AO5 & AO6 in France, South Korea's Offtake auction, and AR6 in the UK - mark an exciting turning point. These projects are expected to provide the critical mass of commercial MW's needed to scale innovation, drive standardization, and address outstanding technical challenges. The technology works and is proven, but floating offshore wind still must tackle serious difficulties. Continuous and collaborative R&D worldwide will be critical to improving performance and competitiveness while substantially reducing the LCOE for floating alternatives with sound, cost-effective solutions. No doubt that awarded commercial projects will pave the way for the sector to achieve its full potential. A big thank you to the EERA DeepWind organizers for an impressive programme and a rather enjoyable event. https://lnkd.in/djThmBux #floatingwind #offshorewind #offshorewindenergy #renewableenergy
