The #COP29 presidency has announced what it aims to achieve at the next #ClimateChange conference in Baku, Azerbaijan. Its flagship goal is to create a Climate Finance Action Fund (CFAF) made up of voluntary contributions from countries and companies producing #FossilFuels to finance climate mitigation, adaptation, research and development – and fund rapid responses to natural disasters in climate-vulnerable countries. Azerbaijan's agenda for the conference has been met with scepticism from the likes of Andreas Sieber of 350.org and Paul Polman, former CEO of Unilever, now a climate and peace activist. https://lnkd.in/e2Er6ruU #ChiefSustainabilityOfficer #ClimatePolicy #EnergyTransition

In this article, I share my thoughts on how COP28's outcomes will impact the private sector in Africa - thank you for the opportunity to contribute African Climate Wire! #climatechange #COP28 #privatesector #ESG #africanews
On the sidelines of the COP, a series of climate finance announcements were made that could advance private-sector climate investment on the African continent. Countries were able to reach agreement on key milestones such as renewable energy and energy efficiency which will undoubtedly shape global demand and supply chains. However, stalled progress on carbon markets and Article 6, and weak text on the phase-out of fossil fuels may dilute the effectiveness of these milestones—Insights by Dalit Anstey. A summary of concrete and vital actions - we need governments that redirect fundings, having long-term perspective and courage to enter into strong global alliancies of necessary decisions! #registertovote
Strong call from World Economic Forum Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders ahead of COP29 Azerbaijan, to countries to develop ambitious and investable Nationally Determined Contributions (national climate plans) ahead of #COP30, expand the use of #CarbonPricing and phase out fossil-fuel subsidies, remove barriers to implementation of COP28 UAE energy targets and enact supportive policies to spur demand for the solutions that business actors can offer. The coming months offer a window to showcase the solutions that are already available, to embolden policy makers globally - particularly in #G20 countries - to confidently set emission-reduction targets in their new NDCs that lead us to jointly limiting temperature rise to 1,5 degrees. Together, let's #PioneerThePossible. Regeringskansliet, Klimat- och näringslivsdepartementet Regeringskansliet, Utrikesdepartementet Business Sweden UNFCCC UN

Report on role at COP28 praises UK contribution, but warns leadership on the international stage is being undermined by mixed messages at home The Climate Change Committee (CCC) has urged the UK government to enhance efforts in meeting domestic climate targets, expressing concerns that mixed messages on decarbonisation plans could harm the country's leadership position at UN climate talks. While acknowledging the UK's significant role in negotiating ambitious agreements at COP28, the CCC emphasised the urgent need for action to fulfill goals set under the UAE Consensus and support the global transition away from fossil fuels. The report also raised concerns about the impact of new fossil fuel projects on the UK's decarbonisation trajectory and highlighted the country's reputation suffering due to mixed messages on climate ambition. #growth #investment #Battery #batteryenergystorage #renewables #RenewableEnergy #SustainableFuture #solarenergy #solarpower #renewables #renewableenergy #investment #cleanenergy #cleanelectricity #greenenergy #greenpower #innovation #greeneconomy #greenbusiness #greenfuture #decarbonisation #netzero #change #batterystorage #batterytechnology #electricity #jobs #battery #cop28 #cop28uae

Climate finance was a key theme of COP28 negotiations, with the launch of a new climate investment fund and billions of dollars pledged towards mitigation, adaptation and the just transition. This could be good news for the private sector, which has a vested interest in key agreements on funding, renewable energy and carbon markets. But as Dalit Anstey writes, slow progress on implementation and watered down texts could also have a negative impact for the private sector. This is phenomenal! Last October I witnessed a clear vision of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Governor of Tokyo, Yuriko Koike on Green Transition plan at the #PRI conference 2023 and now it’s ready to take off! I’m excited to learn from this transformation initiative by a country that was known for a manufacturing and exporting economy (one among the high CO2 emitters and largest economies). I’m sure that many countries can learn from it and take their actions. I have been developing my curiosities for Nepal: Can Nepal also take a major step towards green growth? Can Nepal become innovative in green financing and raise the required capital by selling #GreenBonds locally and internationally? Can Nepal become one of the green countries ( stop financing the RCC structure, replace the fossil fuel with clean fuel, start developing/promoting the green cities, green zones, subsidize the green initiative, promote sustainable consumption etc)? #Nepal #Netzero #greenfinancing #Greenbonds #transition #climatechange
Carbon Credits Japan’s USD$11 Billion Climate Transition Bonds Japan’s Climate Transition Bonds Set New Standards in Sustainable Finance The press release discreetly mentions that Japan’s Climate Transition Bonds are certified under the Climate Bonds Standard. It assures investors’ adherence to global best practices in environmental objectives. Sean Kidney, CEO, of Climate Bonds Initiative, said: “Transition is the theme for the year: corporates, cities and countries need to do transition plans in line with global emission reduction targets; under the Paris Climate Agreement countries are working on ambitious new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) – transition plans – to be tabled at next year’s COP. “This bond shows clearly how governments, and others, can raise funds to invest in that transition. It marks a significant milestone in transition finance.” #climatebondstandard #NDCs #ParisAgreement
