The alarming shortage of pediatricians is a critical issue. Soaring rates of complex childhood illnesses and mental health challenges strain an already overstretched workforce. Low reimbursement for pediatric care, especially for Medicaid and CHIP-insured children, further discourages physicians from specializing in pediatrics. Early childhood intervention is vital for long-term health and cost-saving.
