In the event of a workplace injury, as an HSE professional, it is crucial to respond swiftly and efficiently. Here's guide on what to do. i) Assess the Situation Quickly evaluate the severity of the injury while ensuring your own safety. ii) Provide First Aid Administer appropriate first aid if trained, addressing the nature of the injury. iii) Activate Emergency Response If the injury is serious, initiate the organization's emergency response system and contact the designated emergency number. iv) Isolate the Area Use caution tape or barriers to isolate the incident area, preventing further accidents. v) Communicate with Emergency Services Clearly convey details of the incident to emergency services, including injury nature, location, and relevant information. vi) Notify Relevant Personnel Inform key personnel, including management and the HSE team, ensuring clear communication. vii) Document the Incident Immediately record essential details such as time, date, location, and a brief description for future investigations. viii) Cooperate with Authorities Fully cooperate with regulatory authorities during their investigations, providing necessary information. ix) Conduct a Preliminary Investigation After the immediate response, investigate root causes and identify immediate corrective actions. x) Follow Up Monitor the injured individual's recovery and conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. xi) Review and Revise Procedures Use the incident to review and, if needed, revise safety procedures, incorporating lessons into training. xii) Communicate Findings Share investigation findings with relevant parties within the organization. xiii) Continuous Improvement Continuously assess the effectiveness of corrective actions for ongoing improvement. #safety #safetyfirst #accidentinvestigation

Why I found HSE is a very interesting & responsible profession that has been overlooked by the public and private sectors for so long. As a HSE Officer; 1. Without being a qualified doctor, we treat first aid injuries. 2. Without being a qualified technical engineer we do/advice multiple engineering (Thats why HSE is called, "Mother of all Engineering") 3. Without being qualified for an MBA, we are concerned about management 4. Without being an artist, we perform in every morning show which is called a tool box talk meeting. 5. Without being a qualified writer, we write poems and draw up safety posters. 6. Without being a qualified social worker, we do social work (like arranging resting shelters, smoking areas and drinking water facilities). 7. The main thing is, we give all our best covered to all departments of science, Environment, commercial, Human Resources, Administration, arts and management. 8. We do this hard work and want everyone to go home safely to their families. Proud to be a HSE professional. #HSE #Safety #jobs #Motivation #Environment Copied

***NOT A HELP ME FIND WORK POST*** So I'm actively seeking my next HSE role after recovering from major spinal surgery and fit again to get my teeth into my next challenge. I've had some good interviews in the past couple of weeks and have 3 more so far so I'm confident the right role is not far away. I am adamant that my next role is going to be the right fit for me and that I am the right fit for the company and industry. I think selling ourselves short due to financial restraints and stresses or out of commutable convenience is contributing to hampering the progress and development of the HSEQ profession, and on that note I'm going to exercise patience in choosing my role. I have seen some very low salaries for high responsibility roles in HSEQ Management, got in touch with the recruiters to see if the advertised role salary was a typo, and hit with a brick wall with regards to movement or negotiation on said low salaries. Don't sell yourself short is my message. As Health and safety professionals we wear multiple hats on a daily basis, from chairing HSE management meetings, being a trainer, being part of project design and tender bids, communication at all levels of the business and building working relationships with every department and external stakeholders. We are health and safety law advisors, we have to do presentations and public speaking, lead investigators of accident and incidents, recruiters, administrators, mentors. Salaries at £30-£35k per annum are not good enough, they don't reflect the level of workload and responsibility we do as part of our profession and I've seen so many salaries in that range recently now that I'm actively seeking my next HSE role. If a company is not willing to invest a salary and package commensurate with the role, it can be a sign of a toxic safety culture and the company not serious about the health and safety they are claiming to build and incorporate. If they won't invest in their next H&S employee, they will produce only barriers when you advise changes with cost that need to be made. That is a negative and toxic culture that you will not be able to make a difference in and help keep a workforce and its assets safe. Choose your next role wisely and be patient. Stay Safe 🙌
