Moving from a worst-first to a best first approach is one of the most impactful things a public works department can do to positively impact their budget.
It's no secret that the worst-first approach is an inefficient and ineffective way to manage asphalt assets. But many municipalities and private communities across the country continue to take this approach. Learn why some pavement managers are still using this approach and the steps you can take to switch to a more cost-effective strategy. https://hubs.ly/Q02l_5hZ0 #roads #streets #pavementpreservation #publicworks #assetmanagement #proactive #hoa #preventativemaintenance #infrasructure

Forensic engineering, mitigation, response, evaluations, more. Licensed engineer in FL, ID, MA, MD, ME, NJ, NY, PA, OH, TX, WY
This isn't news. This is simply awareness. The risk of a catastrophic incident as just happened to the Francis Scott Key Bridge is unchanged by the recent collapse. What consistently occurs is that 1. There is chronic underfunding to repair/upgrade our infrastructure until there is a major incident, 2. What funding is available is rarely disbursed on any cost/benefit analysis (inluding due consideration of potential fatalites), and, 3. When there is a tragedy, funding gets skewed to the current "flavor of the year". None of these incidents are unavoidable. But mitigation takes money and, unfortunately, allocation of limited funds is too often based on the latest news headlines or political expediency. • The parking garage collapse in NYC should not have been the impetus to inspect all aging garages (which only occurred in NYC). • The condominium collapse in Surfside should not have been the impetus to hold condominium associations more accountable for inspection and maintenance, as well as to dictate a better maximum inspection interval (which actions have been primarily - though not entirely - limited to Florida and only to a subset of structural types). • Massive flooding and overspending on the NFIP should not be the impetus to act on the obvious flood hazards present in many communities • The tower crane collapse in 2008 should not have been the impetus to strengthen tower crane inspection (which only occurred in NYC) And this is hardly a comprehensive list. https://lnkd.in/eA4pmubF #infrastructure #risk #mitigation #engineering #funding #government #regulatoryaffairs #construction #claims #insurance #forensicengineering

Leading towing training organisation. Teaching people to tow trailers, fit towbars and service trailers.
The latest Annual Local Authority Road Maintenance (ALARM) survey reports a critical shortfall of £16.3 billion needed to address extensive issues with potholes and road wear, highlighting a growing problem that directly impacts anyone involved in towing. The survey notes that fewer than half (47%) of the roads in England and Wales are considered to be in good structural condition. With more than 53% of the roads, or over 107,000 miles, facing potential structural failure within the next decade, the implications for trailer towing are severe. What are the road conditions in your area? Does your local council prioritise its roads or do they feel like you're driving down a dirt track? https://zurl.co/YLJs
