UN award for layoffs! Going through ten biggest layoffs in 2024 globally, we observe highest number of layoffs made by Intel (15000), followed by SAP (10000), CISCO (9000), Xerox, Microsoft, Salesforce, and others. In India layoffs are more evident in IT, and ITeS companies and in startups. Indian family-owned business houses so far enjoyed reputation for retaining employees. For aligning family values with business, layoffs were not so common in family-owned business houses. But now the scenario has changed. With family transition, these business houses diluted their family values. Silent layoffs in their organizations have now become very common. No body seems to be bothered for axing 42000 jobs (close to 11%) of Reliance, which the company proclaims their drive for cost efficiency. Of the 17% layoffs in Indian Retail Industries in 2024, Reliance alone accounts for 11%. Barring Reliance, Titan, and Page, other retailers in India are on hiring spree. This indicates layoffs in Indian retail industries are not just for sluggish demand, but for poor business planning. Dragging people out of job for inappropriate business plan is synonymous to murdering. Such companies are the slaughter houses and will pay for their sins. New generation will shun them as irresponsible employers. With such layoff decision Reliance merits for UN award for layoffs!

Hello Community! So there are lots of issues I had to go through in recent days that kept me on and off from being active here! However there are issues that i wanted to voice out too 1) Layoffs are becoming a fashion these days from Dell Technologies Reliance Retail Intel Corporation Cisco Saarthi.ai Brane Group and still more and still silent layoffs and project cuts will make around 1l people jobless in this time 2) I also heard that Cognizant pays 2.5 LPA for its drive and people have mixed opinions on it, i really think we are moving towards beating people for a reason and increasing CEO salary cap. The best way is to remove the ceo and replace it with AI 3) I found out a fact: layoffs are not done with the motive of AI only. In 2020–2023, many companies got funding via VC i think there might be black and unaccounted money too in the name of funding and getting shares without taxing government 4) Tech is overhyped and overcrowded, and people are shown the easy way of a course Trust me, can someone in a job leave for 6 months take a course and searching jobs? It is a great horror. Tech is a MLM built in hype for quick rich scheme these days 5) I think it is high time we think on what we have over what is there, the jobs we think today are automated over months , and this is harsh reality today 6) Stability over over hyped stuff and hype CTC i guess people know this a lot 7) I think people in india must be paid per hours with 50 hours week we might cross elite paths too! Do let me know anything your opinions here #linkedin #pmo #posts

:🚨:_Tech Layoffs in 2024: A Harsh Reality_:🚨: As we navigate through the dynamic landscape of the tech industry, it's disheartening to witness the recent wave of layoffs that have swept across major companies. According to reports from Times of India, over 50,000 roles have been eliminated in the first quarter of 2024, adding to the 250,000 positions cut in the preceding year. In March alone, significant players such as IBM, Dell, Vodafone, Ericsson, Bell, Facebook Messenger, and Airmeet have announced substantial job cuts, underscoring the challenges faced by the sector. ˗ ˏ ˋ ♡ ˎˊ ˗ IBM: announced cuts in its marketing and communications divisions, reflecting a strategic shift in priorities. ˗ ˏ ˋ ♡ ˎˊ ˗ Dell: reduced its workforce by 6,000 employees, citing sluggish demand in the personal computer division. ˗ ˏ ˋ ♡ ˎˊ ˗ Vodafone Germany: is laying off 2,000 employees as part of cost-saving measures, while also focusing on enhancing customer experience. ˗ ˏ ˋ ♡ ˎˊ ˗ Ericsson: is cutting 1,200 jobs in Sweden due to decreased demand for 5G network equipment. ˗ ˏ ˋ ♡ ˎˊ ˗ Bell: laid off almost 5,000 workers, prompting criticism and a "Shame on Bell" campaign by Unifor. ˗ ˏ ˋ ♡ ˎˊ ˗ Facebook Messenger: underwent a reorganization, resulting in layoffs affecting approximately 50 employees. ˗ ˏ ˋ ♡ ˎˊ ˗ Airmeet: reportedly laid off about 20% of its workforce in a restructuring effort. Recent Layoffs at Dell Technologies: Lessons Dell Technologies announced its second set of layoffs within 15 months. This time, around 12,500 jobs are going to be cut; that is 10 percent of the workforce. The move underlines the company's continuous focusing on artificial intelligence and modern information technology solutions, pointing toward a larger trend in workforce disruption caused by technological changes. Double edged Effect of AI Innovation and efficiency are the two prominent differences that AI and automation can make in industries. Again, these successes have their price in terms of job loss. While AI creates new opportunities, it also makes some positions redundant and thus enforces a change in workforce skill sets. Balancing Innovation and Workforce Needs The layoffs by Dell therefore underline the reality that businesses must balance innovation with workforce development. Investments in reskilling and upskilling programs are called for, to provide workers with capabilities in new roles related to AI technologies. In this manner, a relevant and adaptive workforce is ensured within a fast-changing landscape. Competing with AI In an AI-driven world, individuals and organizations must do the following: 1. Lifelong Learning: Keep learning new skills all the time to maintain a lead over technological disruption. 2. Human-Centric Skills: Develop skills that are less likely to be replicated by AI, such as creativity, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence. 3. AI Tools: Use AI intelligently as productivity and innovation tools, not necessarily just as competitors. Supporting Impacted Employees This includes access to meaningful training programs, career counseling, and job placement opportunities for those who have been laid off. Employers, industry leaders, and policymakers will only be able to provide resources like these if they are united in their efforts to make this transition easier on displaced workers. Responsibly Moving Forward As we ride the wave of the AI revolution, it is important that we do so in a responsible and inclusive manner. That's how, striking a fine balance between technological advancement and workforce support, an economy can be driven to be beneficial for all and ensure growth with shared prosperity. We put into simple words: The future of work is in your hands by perfectly harmonizing the potential of AI with human ingenuity. On an AI-powered trajectory, we will succeed if we stay committed to investing in our workforce and adapting to this AI centric world.

In light of the recent India Today article, silent layoffs seem to be the new normal for many companies. 📰 Many joined the IT workforce during its boom 25 years ago, some transitioning from non-IT fields. Companies provided training, while others sought it from institutes like CDAC or NIIT before joining. Employees honed their expertise in specific domains like programming languages (C, C++, Java, ASP, etc.) or application areas (databases, SQL, ERP) along with building industry-specific knowledge and management skills. 💻📚 As technology advanced, continuous skill upgrades became essential for staying relevant. 🔄 The industry's demand for niche skills, coupled with individual career aspirations, led to frequent job changes and role transitions based on opportunities. We transitioned between companies, believing our skills were valuable. 💼🚀 However, now terms like "reorganization," "cost-cutting," and "downsizing" are becoming commonplace, causing anxiety among employees. 😟 Regardless of the terminology – silent layoffs, quiet firing, etc. – how do we cope when HR informs us our role is impacted by a reorganization or redundancy? 🤔 In such scenarios, we need to revisit our career journey and draw insights from our work experiences so far. 🔍 This reflection helps us approach our career setbacks from a transformed perspective. 🌟 A 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘳 can guide this reflection process, assisting in developing an actionable plan for charting the next course of action. 🗺️ 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gB_HbVda 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠, an intervention based on the latest career counseling framework, focuses on shifting clients' perspectives regarding their career setbacks. Yet another Layoff. It seems like layoff has become a trend, a big tech giant does layoff and everybody follows. I don't believe in layoffs and that they are beneficial in the long term. Companies should have Retention-focused policies, like those advocated by Tata Consultancy Services #layoffs #hiring #humanresources #retention #recruitment
