The #Mekong Region is undergoing a profound agrarian transition. Innovative solutions are required. However, the prevalent focus on descriptive-analytical #research falls short in providing the tools to craft viable pathways towards sustainability. These pathways must not only bolster land governance but also champion the rights and needs of the region's 60 million smallholder farmers. The collection "The agrarian transition in the Mekong Region: pathways towards sustainable land systems”, published in the Journal of Land Use Science and led by #CDE scientists (Universität Bern), brings new science to bear on issues at the forefront of policy and practice. 👉 https://t.ly/8dzBp It features case studies showcasing promising approaches and solutions. The conceptual and analytical insights of these contributions have already produced numerous information materials that are deployed in discussions among decision makers in the region. TODAY: Day 1 of the 3rd Regional Task Force Meeting on #Biofouling Management and Invasive Aquatic Species — 📍Surabaya, Indonesia 🇮🇩 #DYK over 40% of international trade passes through Southeast Asia. This exposes the region’s marine ecosystems to invasive species attached to shipping hulls and other equipment. The Regional Strategy on Biofouling Management in the East Asian Seas Region was agreed upon by members of Glofouling Partnerships on December 2022. PEMSEA is one of the five regional centers/secretariats in the GloFouling Partnerships working on region-wide strategies to address the issue of biofouling management in East Asia🌏. The GloFouling Partnerships🤝 Project is being led by the Global Environment Facility, UNDP, and International Maritime Organization.

Our collaboration will materialize for Türkiye and the Democratic Republic of Congo through meetings scheduled in Istanbul in January. Throughout 2024, we are working to sign collaboration protocols with other African countries, the Balkans, Eurasia, but especially with Turkic States. Integrated Land Use Planning (#ILUP) - at different levels of decision-making, addressing potential trade-offs in each setting, and taking into account the various social, climatic and ecological conditions as well as the different sectoral and individual interests in how the land and water - should be used.   30 years after publishing the first 'Guidelines for Land-Use Planning' in 1993, a new version “Guidelines for Integrated Land Use Planning – an update” looking at new challenges, demands and insights for ILUP is being produced by FAO in collaboration with key partner institutions. At the same time, GIZ will launch a Guidebook on how to navigate evidence-based decision-making in Integrated Land Use Planning. We look forward to seeing you!

7 years on Our Land and Water began funding research in 2016, as one of 11 National Science Challenges established to use a mission-oriented approach to focus on issues of national importance identified by the New Zealand public. Two years in OLW committed to embed te ao Māori at the heart of the Challenge, to support re-imagining the agri-food and fibre system in ways unique to Aotearoa. The concept of te Taiao was introduced as the framework for OLW’s research planning. OLW are currently undertaking a self-examination project of what has been learned. This reflective project will provide key evidence for how research in Aotearoa New Zealand can support the goals of the Vision Mātauraga policy. Community assistance in Papua and the Maluku Islands needs to adapt to the dynamics occurring in the field, both at the local and national levels. In order to formulate a five-year strategy, the EcoNusa Foundation conducts a comprehensive review of Papua and the Maluku Islands to ensure that the community assistance process is more precisely targeted. The findings of these studies were presented during the Dissemination of Rereading Eastern Indonesia: Reflecting on Fair and Sustainable Natural Resource Management in Papua and Maluku on January 29, 2024.
