Health justice, economic justice, and family autonomy are the cornerstones of our work—and the cornerstones of a healthy, racially just society. The Supreme Court’s troubling decision last week overturning #Chevron will make it more difficult for federal agencies to do the critical work they do every day running federal programs that support the health, safety, and economic security of families and communities. In the months and years ahead, we will all need to be vigilant to ensure our government is up to its most basic task: serving its people. This is incredible work! Colette Martin has made an impact and this was passed by legislators but is still not fully through. Sadly, there will likely be no sitting legislature until after the current upcoming provincial election. If this matters to you, think about where your vote lies. https://lnkd.in/eFAD5neb 🌟 A Milestone for Safety and Hope 🌟 December 16, 2022, marked one of the most beautiful days of my life as Bill 17, also known as Claire's Law, was passed unanimously by the legislature. I was honored with a standing ovation, a moment that I will cherish forever. Claire's Law is a vital tool for victims, enabling them to obtain a background check on their ex-partner or perpetrator. I believe this bill is a significant step forward in saving lives and providing a much-needed preventative measure. However, we are still waiting, somewhat impatiently, for its full implementation. Thank you to everyone who supported this crucial legislation. Let's continue to push for its realization and work together to protect and save lives. 💪💖 #publicsafety #lawenforcement #justiccanada #bill17 #clareslaw #governmentofnewbrumswick #governmentofcanada Lyne Chantal Boudreau, Ph.D. Dr. Jennifer Russell, BA, BSc, MD, CCFP Arlene Dunn Véda B. The Supreme Court's Trump immunity decision, as preeminent constitutional law scholars have noted, flunked the tests of nonpartisanship and rule of law, and they also flunked the test of common sense that has helped sustain the vibrancy of the country for 250 years. #courts #justice #politics

If you haven't been paying attention over the SCOTUS docket over the last eight days, you better wake up! Let's see... - Presidents can now accept bribes while in office and also order the hit on an opponent by Seal Team 6 and not be criminally charged. All ok under now because these are "so called" presidential duties. I guess we do like having a monarchy after all. - It's now easier for elected officials and law enforcement to criminally charge and fine the unhoused community for sleeping on the streets, in their car, city parks and the sidewalks. This could have far-reaching implications for those with mental health and/or disability issues. I'm seriously trying to understand how someone who can't afford shelter can now afford to pay a fine. I think that we can all agree that we have a homelessness problem in this nation but putting folks in jail isn't going to remedy it. - Oh, and did I forget that with the overturning of a 40 year old law (the Chevron Act) now shifts power from the executive branch to the judicial branch (SCOTUS) now making them the experts when it comes to government regulations like pollution, asbestos, water contamination, etc. You know, things that scientists and trained professionals can speak on with authority and experience. If I'm being a little snarky it's because I can't say what I really want to and not be thrown into LinkedIn jail. These are just three major opinions that have come down over the past week. Not for nothing, but I'm glad that this session is over because it's going to take me all of the summer to heal from these wounds. https://lnkd.in/gSGQz3bu #scotusrulings

The Supreme Court Ruling This is a disturbing development. The rule of law and accountability are essential for a healthy democracy. No one, including the President, should be above the law. We need to ensure that our leaders are held accountable for their actions, and that our democracy remains transparent and just. #AccountabilityMatters #RuleOfLaw #DemocracyUnderSiege PS Remember The power of the people is greater than any institution. We must continue to speak out, organize, and demand accountability from our leaders. No one is above the law, and we will not stand idly by if our democracy is threatened. Let's keep pushing for justice and transparency! #PeoplePower #Accountability #DemocracyInAction
