Is New Zealand the next hot market for electric construction equipment? In recent years, there has been a surge in activity driven by funding and manufacturers launching electrified products into the New Zealand market. Early adopters are experimenting and benefitting from this activity, getting hands on experience with the machines and learning about how to operate, charge and integrate them into their operations. The EECA (Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority) overseas the Low Emission Transportation fund which provides funding for electric construction machinery. Beneficiaries of funding include TDX Ltd. The Bullocks Group has invested in two electric wheel loaders from XCMG Group to support decarbonisation of its quarrying and concrete activities. What do you think? Are you seeing interest from New Zealand? #newzealand #construction #constructionequipment #nrmm #electrification

# 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 🚧🔍 The Netherlands faces a significant challenge: the replacement and renovation of hundreds of large, complex bridges. Many of these structures were built in the 1960s and 1970s and are nearing the end of their theoretical lifespan. With safety, mobility, and sustainability in mind, a large-scale renovation is unavoidable. But how can we approach this more intelligently? 🤔 Open data sharing plays a crucial role. By sharing information about the current condition of bridges, traffic loads, and maintenance history, we gain better insights into which bridges need to be prioritized. This data enables strategic planning of maintenance and more efficient allocation of resources, saving both time and money. ⏱️💰 A great example of open data sharing is the Öresund Bridge between Sweden and Denmark. Here, various parties collaborate to share data on traffic flows, structural monitoring, and weather conditions. The Öresundsbro Konsortiet makes this data accessible to maintenance teams and external partners, allowing for predictive maintenance. Thanks to this collaboration, potential issues can be addressed early, and efficiency is improved by planning maintenance based on real-time data rather than fixed schedules. Watch more here (https://lnkd.in/eVdgY3T7) 👉 Stay tuned for more on how open data sharing can transform the largest replacement and renovation challenge for the infrastructure in the Netherlands! #Infrastructure #OpenData #Bridges #Renovation #SmartData #Netherlands #Innovation #PredictiveMaintenance

As the main commercial port for the north east of Scotland, Port of Aberdeen, wanted to investigate the best decarbonisation opportunities for the harbour. Following an initial feasibility study and the completion of a successful Outline Business Case, Port of Aberdeen received over £3m in government funding from the Zero Emission Vessels Infrastructure (ZEVI) competition. The funding would be used to support the deployment of a shore power system at the Point Law Peninsula area of the port. Speaking at the All-Energy Exhibition and Conference, Eliott Higgins from the Energy Team spoke about the challenges and the opportunities presented when this is done optimally. He said: “UK shipping accounts for ~3% of total emissions @ ~15 MtCO2,e. Additionally there are the air quality impacts due to pollutants Nitrous Oxide, Sulphur Oxide, etc.” At the Port of Aberdeen, the Buro Happold team considered and assessed a range of low carbon interventions, identifying that 78% of total carbon emissions occurred from vessels at berth. Shore power was identified as a critical part for port decarbonisation in Aberdeen. Shore power provides low carbon power to vessels whilst at berth, offsetting the need to run vessel auxiliary engines and significantly reducing the vessel emissions. “However, this wasn’t simply a case of implementation. We needed to engage various key stakeholder from the DNO, equipment suppliers and harbour operations to identify an optimal design solution and consider the techno-economic viability for shore power.” Buro Happold have been involved in the demonstrator project to deliver a RIBA Stage 2 design and specification, complete active stakeholder engagement, produce a techno-economic model and support around the Heads of Terms agreements. To find out more about the project or how we can help you decarbonise your development, contact Eliott Higgins on LinkedIn or Dr James Dickinson here: https://buro.im/4bTbnlY #portsdecarbonisation #energy #shorepower #demonstrator #netzero #burohappold

Costain Group PLC poised for major HS2 tunnel fit out deal #Costain is understood to have landed a major tunnel fit-out deal on HS2. Sources close to the project said confirmation of the award is imminent. Earlier this week HS2 handed-out £3bn of track contracts with Ferrovial BAM and Colas Rail among the big winners. A project source told the Enquirer: “The tunnel fit-out deal is another major package on the project that everyone has been waiting to hear about and the word is that Costain has landed it.” Costain declined to comment. https://lnkd.in/e7KxGRN7

🚄 Exciting News for UK Infrastructure! 🌍 I'm thrilled to share that the joint venture between Costain Group PLC and Siemens Mobility has secured a £300 million contract to deliver high voltage power supply systems for the HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd. This contract covers the entire 225 km route between London and Birmingham. The JV will be responsible for designing, manufacturing, supplying, installing, testing, commissioning, and maintaining the high voltage power systems. Why is this important? HS2 trains will be powered by zero-carbon energy from day one of operation, making this a significant step towards a more sustainable and efficient rail network in the UK. This project is a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation in driving forward our infrastructure and sustainability goals. 🚆⚡
