Here’s how we’re maximizing our email deliverability at Obvi: 1: Maintain A High-Quality List Your email marketing strategy is designed to cultivate relationships with your audience, and nothing does that better than consistently sending high-quality, engaging content. Other ways to improve the quality of your email list: - Get permission from them BEFORE sending them emails - Double it up with an opt-in - Do not ever buy or share email lists - Sunset low-engagement email addresses 2: Send Relevant Content Yes, again with the relevant, high-quality content. Can’t escape this one. Research your audience - read through comments and reviews, send them questionnaires… Be very, very thorough in your research to understand what they want to see from you so that you can craft high-quality, relevant content that they actually want to read. 3: Use A Solid, Reputable Email Infrastructure This is the nitty-gritty backend of your email marketing: - Your sending domain - IP Address - Etc There are a lot of moving parts here, and I highly recommend bringing on an email service provider to help you do this right - we use Sendlane for this Their email marketing services have been crucial to our success in that area—they own their own deliverability infrastructure so they don’t have to rely on any third parties. As a business owner running your email marketing campaigns by yourself, your email metrics can feel like a foreign language at times. Don't worry, you're not alone. Understanding your email metrics is key to improving your results and growing your business. I'll be taking you through a few of the key metrics you should note and pay particular attention to, and why they matter. Today, let's look at a few. 1. Bounce Rate -This is the percentage of emails that couldn’t be delivered to recipients’ inboxes. This could be a result of invalid or inactive email addresses on your list. It's important to note and work on this because having continuously high bounce rates affects your sender reputation and deliverability. To fix this, clean your email list regularly to remove those inactive or invalid email addresses. This is why buying email addresses can be an issue. Also, take another look at your opt-in process to ensure it's allowing you to capture valid email addresses. 2. Non-Bounce Rate: As the name implies, this tells you the number or percentage of your emails that got delivered into your subscribers' inboxes successfully. This speaks to how good your deliverability is and lets you know how to improve on it. 3. Open rate: I've said it before and I'll say it again. Getting your email into your subscriber's inbox is not the goal. Getting your email opened and read is the goal. An opened and read email has more chance of converting a subscriber into a paying customer than just having it sitting pretty in their inbox and ignored. Your open rate is the percentage of emails successfully delivered and opened by your subscribers. The higher this percentage, the better. Factors that enhance your open rate include your subject line and your "from name." Understanding how they're calculated gives you more insight into what these numbers are saying and forms the basis upon which you can tweak your email marketing strategy.
