Patient waitlist hack incoming! We analyzed 520,000 patient waitlist entries between May 2018 and August 2022 to come up with recommendations to make your appointment scheduling more efficient. Here are the top four: 1. Allow patients to attempt to reschedule their own appointment via SMS (don't just drop them a link—more in #4) 2. Provide patients with 3 options to choose from when attempting to reschedule, and if none of these offers are feasible for the patients, the patient should have the option to cancel their appointment and join the waitlist. 3. Modify reschedule templates so that patients are informed of their options and given the option to join the waitlist. 4. Always attempt to allow patients to reschedule via SMS before giving them the option to reschedule via a link to the Web Scheduler, because SMS is often a more easily accessible method of rescheduling. Learn how Luma's Smart Waitlist is changing the game for Oracle Health users. https://hubs.ly/Q02pT9k-0

Consultant, speaker, award winning author. IT should support -- not impede -- health information sharing. Researching next book.
Most Americans were scheduled to have their own electronic health records by 2014. It's 2014 and that goal has still not been met. Why? America's current approach to capturing, updating, reporting, and exchanging health information favors EHR vendors and their large hospital clients -- many of whom are concerned with patient leakage and only grudgingly share patient information with competitors. Instead, America's approach should favor patients and physicians, the principals at the point of care. It's time to recalibrate America's approach to health information. It's not too late!
