How much and to what extent does REC as a new institutional mechanism succeed in mediating socio-territorial innovation pathways while ensuring economic development, social inclusion and environmental sustainability? To explore these research questions, the building processes of four energy communities located in marginal areas of two regions in the South of Italy and recognized in the national debate as “good practices”. The analysis showed they have encountered difficulties and delays, due to the lack of a favorable regulatory framework. However, several elements suggest that these RECs are triggering institutional learning processes in the territories. Keywords: Renewable energy communities; Italian regulatory framework; sustainable local development; embeddedness; organizational networks. 🟩read the article https://lnkd.in/dzVNAZ_h #Research #Academic #sustainability #CultureDellaSostenibilità #energycommunity; #energytransition #Renewable #sustainablelocalDevelopment🌊🌍

Delighted to have been invited to Community Energy Scotland’s annual conference, to introduce The Strathclyde Institute for Sustainable Communities (SISC). I covered what SISC has been established to achieve, why, who we are and how we can help communities. I also noted a few key research challenges, including: - 📈 scaling up community energy and quickly - 📏 monitoring and evaluating community benefit - 🔄 building ecosystems to support sustainable grassroots innovations - 🔥 community-scale decarbonisation of heat, esp rural communities and multi-occupancy, high density urban dwellings Key take-aways from subsequent discussions were: - ⛏️ avoid an extractive research model. We cannot repeat the mistakes of some “community engagement” that doesn’t close the feedback cycle and see external parties parachute in and out. It needs to be more embedded and longer-lasting collaboration. Big Q about what this looks like in reality. - 🧺 a single repository for open access data and research publications, where communities (and other stakeholders) can easily find and access relevant data or research findings. This needs long term funding and relies of broad partnership. - 📖 the importance of storytelling. Whilst big data sets and killer stats can turn heads, people and place-centered stories can win hearts and minds. They’re also a really effective way of disseminating insights. It’s an art form and we’d like to upskill ourselves on it. A great conference and thank you to the organisers and attendees. So much for us to consider about what SISC does and how it does it. We’re also keen for Local Zero Podcast to explore these themes in more detail, so please let me know if you might be keen to speak to these issues. #communities #sustainability #research

#PDF #CircularEconomy #Study Find "Key drivers identified in the literature include governmental policy shifts in the region towards circular and sustainable practices. These practices have focused on leveraging the abundance and diversity of natural resources and the region's climatic conditions that favour the development of bio-industries, renewable energies, and innovative sustainable materials, reflecting a clear adaptation of circular economy strategies to the specific needs and resources of Latin America and the Caribbean." https://lnkd.in/eAF5MAPM

Source: (Journal of environmental management) Fossil fuels hinder green economic growth and sustainability in South Asia, negatively impacting both the home country and neighboring economies. In contrast, renewable energy promotes growth and sustainability regionally. The study emphasizes the need for cooperative environmental policies, aligning with global agreements like COP28 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

I have no clue! (yet) 🤷♀️ What is meant by 'Absolute Sustainability' for #energy companies? But... ...tomorrow (on May 2nd), I will join a webinar and become wiser! 🤯😄 👉 Join me! Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/dVVyd5tQ My good colleague Thomas Fruergaard Astrup, Sustainability Lead in Ramboll’s #Energy Division along with Michael Hauschild, Professor and Head of the Centre for Absolute Sustainability at DTU - Technical University of Denmark University of Denmark will speak of: • What is 'absolute sustainability'? • Why should energy companies consider absolute sustainability across business and operations? • Practical applications for companies in the energy sector The teaser says: ✔ 'Absolute sustainability' is about meeting the needs of current and future generations without exceeding the planetary boundaries. ✔ Energy production and consumption have significant environmental and social impacts, including greenhouse gas emissions, air and water pollution, habitat destruction, and community displacement. ✔ As such, energy companies have a responsibility to mitigate these impacts and stay within the planetary boundaries. ✔ But how does this apply in practice? ▶ Feel free to share and repost. Thanks! 🙏 #AbsoluteSustainability #EnergyTransition #PartnerForSustainableChange #Sustainability
