Entry level medical sales roles are most often not entry level sales roles. An entry level sales role is at a large Fortune 500 company selling B2B. You can find these on google by searching “Selling Power’s Top 50”. Entry level MEDICAL sales roles are most often “Associate Sales Representatives” or TM positions that require 6-12 months of sales experience and is your “entry” to the medical sales world. I notice some people looking for device roles get frustrated on here saying that nobody will give them a shot, not knowing that med device sales isn’t an entry level sales job. Guarantee yourself a med device role by getting entry level sales experience for 6-12 months and becoming a top candidate applying for an ASR position. OR: Take a breath, realize you’re going after a position that requires more experience than you have, and increase your sales and presentation skills, network more, and prepare more than any other candidate going for that ASR position who has sales experience. Stay positive, hungry, and curious! Good luck!

Why I aspire to be a medical sales representative: I once had a mentor who profoundly impacted my perspective on career choices. She shared that a career is the most time-consuming activity in a person's life, often taking time away from family and children. This insight resonated deeply with me, leading me to pursue a career in medical sales. In the field of medical sales, I have found my passion. It's not just about being great at selling; it's about making a meaningful impact in the world. Each sale goes beyond financial success; it means providing devices or pharmaceuticals that will directly improve a patient's life. For me, a career should be about more than just personal success; it should be about positively impacting the lives of others. That's the true essence of a fulfilling career in medical sales. If your company or someone you know is hiring I am open to all opportunities! #MedicalSales #CareerImpact #MakingADifference #opentohire

🚨HOW DID I GET INTO MEDICAL SALES?🚨 The famous question.. the question I get every day in my inbox.. so why not answer it here for everyone to see??!! My medical sales journey was a pretty classic one I would say.. I have been interested in medicine my entire life (came from a family background of medicine) but I didn’t know the exact direction I wanted to take. When I decided on medical sales after I graduated from college (On Wisconsin! 👐🏻🦡), I connected with a medical sales recruiter who told me I needed sales experience. I took the first sales job, in IT recruiting, and busted my butt to get promoted to an account manager (aka sales). I hit my year mark and I called that recruiter back up and told her I was ready. The next day I got a medical sales job… JUST KIDDING!!! It took me a couple months, even though I had sales experience!! The JOB SEARCH TAKES TIME ⏰ I was hired by Stryker and began my med sales career in foot and ankle trauma 🦶 If you have ever been in a trauma role, you know how your life changes in the blink of an eye. Hard work, late nights, long hours, on call 24/7. It is a constant grind. 😅 When I hit the point where I didn’t think the juice was worth the squeeze for me anymore (for a multitude of reasons), I sought out a position that offered me a better quality of life and something I felt more passionate about. And that’s how I got here: Mentor Worldwide LLC plastic surgery- breast reconstruction, breast augmentation. The worldwide leader in breast aesthetics! A passion; an amazing company with a great culture. I truly enjoy waking up and doing my job every day, but the job doesn’t come without the grind. Medical sales takes a lot of hard work; maybe some sleepless nights, some tears, broken nails 💅, but KEEP GOING!! Eventually you are going to end up in a job you love waking up to every day. ➡️ more questions? Ask away!

9 things I’d do every Saturday if I was looking to land first medical sales job: 1. Walk/get sunlight. 2. Hit coffee shop, grab a dirty matcha to get in flow state. 3. On YouTube, research: procedures and products I’d be covering, what physicians are saying about the products, top 2-3 competitive products and what drs are saying about them, what’s new in a particular disease state like Rotator cuff repair. 4. On YouTube, study a sales process like Sandler. 5. Get all these notes onto a PowerPoint 6. Get on LinkedIn “Jobs Tab”, type in “associate sales representative” and my city, then message reps in each of those cities who have openings to ask for a 5-min phone call. 7. After a couple hours, get some exercise in. 8. Read 1-3 chapters of your sales book of choice. 9. Relax and wind down in evening with no phone or stress. Repeat Sunday. You’ve got this!!

Ok, so you are 3-8 yrs in your medical sales career at a well known company and thriving, but you’re wondering - is this really it? Don’t fret! There is more out there! While you have been busy representing your well established company, there are countless other small companies in your space trying to innovate and establish themselves. This is the world of disruptive technology. Selling new and disruptive technology is really exciting. It is also really challenging. For a lot of medical sales representatives, getting the surgeon to us your product is the end of the sales process. For some others, what’s required is covering the cases, providing clinical expertise, and working in an up-sell here or there. For the disruptive seller, getting the surgeon to use the product and supporting their cases is really just the tip of the ice berg. Disruptive selling requires a lot more. You need to educate the market. You need to CREATE the market. Nothing is established and nothing is coming in the door on it’s own. This means selling the concept to the referring physician community, not just the users. It means educating the general patient population via marketing and education events. It means creating pathways towards reimbursement/payment, and sometimes that means offering a lot of up front work for free to establish proof of concept and true partnership. It means gathering feedback constantly from patients and providers so the product can improve. It means walking into facilities where no one knows who you are or what you do. It means at least all this and usually a bit more depending on your specialty and setting. And disruptive sellers are supposed to do all this without all the resources and support of a big budget organization. Disruptive selling is the ENTIRE sales process. It is grueling, full of setbacks and challenges, and often thankless. But it is also the way forward. It’s how every established technology started, and it’s how the world becomes a better place. It also might be the career jolt you’ve been looking for. #MedicalSales #DisruptiveTechnology #SalesCareers
