“The one who plants trees, knowing that he will never sit in their shade, has at least started to understand the meaning of life.” ― Rabindranath Tagore Nothing gives life meaning than living for a cause bigger than you. The cause becomes better when it leaves humanity better than you found it. Every person you encounter should be a better version of themselves than you found them . Every child deserves a chance to dream and achieve their potential. The meaning of life to a child begins in the corridors of schools, where a responsible human is groomed. Nevertheless, countless children face barriers that frustrate their hope of getting a decent education. Most of them who come from poor backgrounds end up staying at home due to financial constraints. The lucky ones meet well-wishers, churches, and non-profit organizations who sponsor their education. To others, it becomes an end to their education. It was in the heart of the founder Jenga Bridges Foundation to help these children by paying for their fees. After doing this for a while the burden became bigger than she could bear, hence the birth of the Foundation. Numerous people are willing to help but don’t have access to the children. With Jenga Bridges Foundation, well-wishers consolidate to meet the needs of these children. Join us in this noble cause of building bridges of hope for the future generation. There is a concept called “giving back”, resulting from an even more noble concept termed “Gratitude”. We feel gratitude to our parents, teachers and all who helped us throughout our lives. Those that reflect only inwards may pin their success on their own skills and personal gifts, totally ignoring those who nourished them - more importantly the environment where they grew to become successful beings, then or later. Our country may have failed us at times – our teachers or parents may have been unfair to us in certain occasions. This ought not remove the sense of gratitude we should exercise to give back to those we owe. Giving back as a general concept is a nice gesture. In times of need, it becomes an essential must-do duty. A parent facing physical or financial difficulties expects their children to come to their aid. A country in distress expects its people to rally to its aid. Om Kalthoum going on a singing tour to raise funds for Egypt after 1967 war was such great example. There are a few means to give back. Some may choose to donate funds, belongings or personal time. Others may wish to lay down the fruits of their success to the service of those they owe their gratitude. An effective means for giving back is through a sustainable mechanism, that which lasts the life of the event. Sir Magdy Yacoub is such a great and noble example. His skills are not just being donated here, but his knowledge and experience is passed through to others who will continue in his path well after his time. It may be true that some enterprises may cloak their evil agendas in righteous appearances, but it is hurtful to many if their genuine attempt to assist is met by doubtful recipients assuming a sinister intention. On a personal note: I had a successful career and made my millions with my blood sweat and tears in a country that is not mine. True, I had my fair share of injustice in my own country – but it is also fair to say I experienced the same where I now live. To assume I came to my ‘exile country’ with nothing would be unfair to my motherland who instilled in me the essence of who I am now and armed me with the knowledge and education which – until now – did not reflect with much value to the motherland where I was educated. I am no Magdy Yacoub nor Om Kalthoum – single handedly there is little one can do. I feel that donations, whilst effective, are a once off act, or at best a token gift to give back to the motherland. Egypt.. I have therefore reached for brothers and assumingly like-minded friends to act collectively to GIVE BACK to the country WE EQUALLY OWE a great deal at a time of its distress. To question my motives is simply hurtful. On a positive note, I regard responses as means of understanding and gaining further discernment as I move through the rest of my life.

One of the common challenges international students face is social isolation. In the past few months, I have been speaking with quite a few international students and here's a few ways you can overcome isolation as an international student. 1. Attend events : If you want to overcome isolation you have to be intentional. There's almost always free events happening in your city. #Eventbrite or #meetup should be your go to. 2. Volunteer: #Volunteering not only connect you to a cause but also helps you connect with your community and fosters new friendships. You can volunteer at a local church or any preferred charity. 3. Join a student club. As a way enriching your academic experience. That said, we've got an exciting #event coming up in #Aberdeen. Hit the Follow/like button to stay updated on the details.
