What a brilliant way to kickstart 2025 - with a thought-provoking smart cities roundtable! A key takeaway from the discussions was the importance of purpose. Technology should never be used for its own sake - it should drive meaningful change for people and the planet. As Steven Velegrinis aptly put it, "We shouldn't be building smart cities in dumb ways!" 🎥 Check out the highlight video below for some of the insights shared. #smartcities #sustainability #masterplanning https://lnkd.in/d3bh64xm

The World Economic Forum, in partnership with the Chen Institute at NYU Stern School of Business, has unveiled Reimagining Real Estate: A Framework for the Future. This comprehensive report outlines essential actions for both public and private sectors to promote communities and buildings that are liveable, sustainable, resilient and affordable. At Majid Al Futtaim, we are committed to creating future-proof, adaptable, and authentic communities. We are excited to have contributed to this report, which features our latest development, Ghaf Woods—a pioneering project that exemplifies the principles of sustainable urban design. As cities continue to grow, the importance of liveability becomes ever more apparent. Ghaf Woods not only acknowledges the wide-ranging benefits from enhanced mental health to climate resilience but also aims to foster strong social connections among residents and a deeper bond with nature. By enhancing natural light, incorporating the outdoors, and ensuring resilience to climate conditions, Ghaf Woods offers thoughtfully designed spaces that prioritise liveability and access to nature. With over 35,000 trees, Ghaf Woods is set to become Dubai’s first forest-living community, embracing innovative and sustainable design principles that seamlessly balance modern living with environmental stewardship. We are excited to continue shaping communities that address the needs of today while contributing positively to the environment and society for generations to come. #FutureOfRealEstate #Sustainability #BuildingTheFuture #MajidAlFuttaim

I recently delved into the insightful 'Plan Abu Dhabi 2023' by The Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, outlining a strategic roadmap for sustainable urban development until 2030. A must-read document for everyone considering investing in Abu Dhabi real estate. Outlined by the Council and endorsed by the Executive Council, the plan focuses on managing the city's expansion to accommodate a projected population of 3–5 million residents, emphasizing the following key pillars: - **Sustainability & Environment**: Prioritizing the preservation of Abu Dhabi's distinct ecosystems, the plan includes initiatives like establishing national parks and environmentally sensitive zones to facilitate controlled urban growth. - **Economy & Land Use**: With a core focus on economic diversification, the plan promotes renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power while outlining growth hubs like the New Central Business District and the Capital District for governmental and educational institutions. - **Transportation & Connectivity**: Envisioning a comprehensive transportation network, the plan advocates for metro systems, high-speed rail, and public transit to enhance walkability, reduce car dependency, and encourage sustainable mobility. - **Open Spaces & Green Areas**: A network of parks, green boulevards, and public spaces integrates urban living with natural surroundings, featuring notable locations like Mangrove Park and the Corniche for recreational and community purposes. - **Cultural Heritage & Identity**: Central to the plan is the preservation of Abu Dhabi's Arab identity, manifesting through architectural styles, cultural practices, and dedicated spaces for national events and festivities. - **Social Infrastructure & Housing**: Supporting Emirati communities, the plan incorporates mixed-use land strategies including eco-villages in desert and island locales, catering to diverse housing needs while upholding sustainability principles. 'Plan Abu Dhabi 2030' embodies a versatile and practical vision for the city, harmonizing economic growth, environmental conservation, and cultural heritage preservation to elevate residents' quality of life within a resilient, world-class urban setting. #SustainableCities #UrbanDevelopment #AbuDhabi2030 #SmartGrowth
