Visually impaired runner Libby Clegg and Paralympic guide Chris Clarke ran wrist to wrist, perfectly synchronized, and won gold in the 100-meter and 200-meter races at the Paralympic Games in 2016, breaking the Paralympic world record! Interestingly, Clarke didn’t make it for England’s national team and couldn’t compete in the 2016 Olympics, but he made a comeback by partnering with a winner in the 2016 Paralympic. He and Clegg trained for only two months together, and he helped Clegg see what she couldn't see. The takeaway? Winners need opportunity. When a winner partners with another winner, the likelihood of success DOUBLES. Are you teaming with winners? Repost this to your winner partners! #Success #Teamwork #Partnership #Cofounders

Since 1960, the Paralympic Games have challenged notions of disability, and what began as a movement with just 400 athletes, has grown to 4,400 across 22 sports. Outstanding performances from Paralympians like Natalie du Toit, the first amputee swimmer to compete in both the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and Abdellatif Baka, a visually impaired runner who not only broke the 1500m T13 world record, but ran it 1.71 seconds faster than the Olympic gold medallist that same year, help prove to the world that firsts go beyond the podium. As a P.Ed student since the Paralympics started, this has always been my question: Why are we not creating the same hype as the Olympics? Why aren’t we celebrating our Indian Paralympic champions enough? While the Paralympic Games showcase incredible talent, determination, and resilience, the achievements of our Indian Paralympians often go unnoticed. Athletes like Devendra Jhajharia, Mariyappan Thangavelu, and Avani Lekhara have brought immense pride to the nation with their world-class performances. Yet, they rarely receive the recognition they deserve in mainstream media. Why is this the case? Maybe it’s due to the media’s overwhelming focus on popular sports, or societal perceptions that undervalue the accomplishments of athletes with disabilities. But these athletes, who break barriers and push human limits, deserve our attention, respect, and celebration. Let’s change the narrative. Let’s honour their dedication and shine a brighter light on their victories. Share their stories, follow their journeys, and give them the recognition they have earned. #Paralympics #IndianAthletes #InclusionMatters #CelebratingChampions #SportsForAll #Inspiration Watch this video of an athlete from the Paralympics -- https://lnkd.in/gNRSzwTq

Paralympics has evolved and come a long way since its inception 76 years ago but it still has interesting quirks, some of which are understandable whilst others not so much: 🌟 Para-judo is reserved only for the visually impaired whilst para-taekwondo is for athletes with upper-limb disabilities 🌟 There is wheelchair rugby, tennis, table-tennis and more but not wheelchair volleyball and it is played as "sitting volleyball", where athletes have to sit on the floor and manouvre 🌟 Why can't athletes with intellectual impairments, compete in sports categories outside of para-athletics, para-swimming & para-table tennis 🌟 There is no weightlifting in the Paralympics but there is powerlifting, which is pretty much a horizontal affair, where athletes are bench-pressing 🌟 The basketball ball hoop is 3.05m from the ground, in both able-bodied and Para-basketball. 🌟 Lastly, no prostheses are allowed in para-swimming Have you come across any para-quirks, but have been shy to question or write about it? Each day I spend at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, I discover something new but what remains constant, is the competitive and fair play spirit of these living miracles called Paralympians 👌
