Dear LinkedIn family and the LinkedIn Gods, who determines who sees this post. I want to share a deeply personal journey that led to creating something genuinely impactful – The Bowman Foundation for Workplace Equity and Mental Wellness. This initiative is not just a cause; it's a lifeline, a beacon of hope for individuals navigating the complex terrain of mental health in the workplace. The pandemic swept through our lives like a storm, leaving behind a trail of challenges, isolation, and uncertainty. For me, it culminated in a desperate moment in January 2021 when I attempted to end my own life. By some twist of fate, I survived that dark hour, but the aftermath revealed a startling truth – the urgency of addressing mental health cannot be ignored. In the face of this personal crisis, I emerged with an unwavering commitment to transform my pain into purpose. My husband and I founded The Bowman Foundation for Workplace Equity and Mental Wellness in May 2022 with the steadfast support of my family, friends, and dedicated mental health professionals. Why focus on workplace equity and mental wellness? Because workplaces wield immense influence over our mental health. We believe everyone deserves to experience psychological safety and inclusivity in their work environment. We have taken strides to make this vision a reality – from launching workplace mental health training for managers and HR professionals to publishing impactful white papers. We even celebrated change-makers worldwide through a gala that united voices for positive change. Yet, the journey to fostering mental wellness is not without challenges. Running a non-profit is an uphill battle, and we struggle to maintain our momentum. This is where you come in. As such, I have joined the Board of Directors for NAMI-NYC so that we can partner with them to continue our mission and make a bigger impact. As we mark Suicide Prevention Month, we launch a critical fundraising campaign. We aim to continue delivering invaluable resources, comprehensive training, and impactful research that reshape workplaces into havens of well-being. Regardless of size, your contribution will be pivotal in making this vision a reality. We strive to raise $25,000 this month. You can make your donation here: https://lnkd.in/e-GaDDQG By supporting The Bowman Foundation for Workplace Equity and Mental Wellness and NAMI-NYC, you invest in a future where mental health stigma is eradicated, workplaces are safe spaces, and individuals are empowered to shine their brightest. Let's profoundly impact together in the spirit of unity and shared humanity. Thank you for considering supporting our cause and being a beacon of light in someone's darkest hour. With heartfelt gratitude, Natasha and Kent Bowman Co-Founders The Bowman Foundation for Workplace Equity and Mental Wellness #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #suicidepreventionmonth

At the weekend my brother baked a Lemon Drizzle Cake, Banana Biscoff Loaf, Flapjack, Choc Chip Blondies and a Summer Fruit Drizzle Cake. I was impressed! They looked lush! He was baking them for a charity bake sale at the local Iceland store in aid of Campaign Against Living Miserably (#CALM). It's #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek this week. His donations flew off the bake sale table! In recent years, we've peeled back the layers of stigma surrounding mental health, especially in the office. But how far have we really come in understanding and managing wellness at work? Back in the day, admitting to stress or anxiety was a no-go. It was a silent struggle, a hidden battle. More recently, we've witnessed a seismic shift. Organisations are stepping up, recognising the value of employee wellbeing not just for productivity but as a cornerstone of workplace culture. I've seen great leaps in mental health awareness initiatives. From mental health first aiders on-site to 'wellbeing hours' being embedded into the work schedule. It's clear the corporate world is awakening. But, the journey is far from over. The true test lies in translating awareness into sustained, active support. It's one thing to talk the talk about mental wellness, but quite another to walk the walk. Lasting change involves reshaping policies, opening clear communication channels, and fostering an environment where employees feel genuinely supported to be their full selves. How has your workplace evolved in this respect? #MentalHealthAwareness #WorkplaceWellbeing #EmployeeEngagement #ItsOkNotToBeOk #GoingBeyond #BCorp

Passionate leader of volunteering | FRSA | Writer | Volunteer Resource Manager @ London Transport Museum
Working with volunteers can be very stressful and demanding, so how do you take care of your own wellbeing and mental health so you don't lose the plot? From dealing with dominant volunteer personalities, responding to complaints/escalations, being adaptable and inclusive to individual volunteer needs to being flexible/available/accessible to everyone, there is a lot to juggle. Oh and managing everyone's expectations including senior leaders. It takes a lot out of you, and you need to develop your strength and resilience. Some of the areas I've invested in to address this are: - set boundaries and communicate them to volunteers (where/when I'm working and how I'm contactable) - marked out focus time & thinking time in my diary (away from noise/distraction) to help me plan and reflect - delegate responsibilities to other colleagues (you can't be available 24/7 for volunteers!) to share responsibility and accountability of engaging volunteers - I had my first coaching session this week with Jo Gibney to talk through volunteer management challenges - great success! - set expectations with your volunteers on their behaviour/conduct/representation and hold them to it - be kind to yourself - reflect on your achievements at the end of the day and remind yourself of the positive work you're doing It's certainly a journey, and I'm learning over time what works for me. What are you doing to set boundaries in volunteer engagement and manage your wellbeing? #lovols #wellbeing #morale #mentalhealth #management #volunteerengagement
