Our Healthcare system is at risk.
Houston, we have a problem! According to a recent Medscape survey, 26% of physicians want to leave their profession. This alarming reality is highlighted in today's Becker's ASC. Physician colleagues are plagued with longer hours, reduced reimbursement, increased administrative tasks, staff shortages (especially CRNAs) and a massive backlogs of sick patients. The healthcare labor crisis impacts all of us, and innovative methods of recruiting and retaining physicians as well as healthcare workers are paramount. Check out the article to learn more about why physicians are exiting medicine. #healthcare #physicians #recruiting #retention #healthcareworkers #laborcrisis #ScottBecker #JoeMullings #beckersasc

Physical Therapist turned Healthcare Recruiter | Partnering with Healthcare Teams to Find Top Talent | Recruiting Therapists, Nurses & Leadership
Most Outpatient Physical Therapy clinics are looking for 1 PT to add to their team. But that 1 PT, has endless options. So how do you stand out amongst your competition? Pay, benefits, patient volume, schedule, con ed / mentorship, company culture etc. are all on the table. However, I can tell you one thing that is certain… your organization can’t afford to be at the bottom of each category. Because in this candidate driven market, all it takes is for 1 other company to exceed what you have to offer. Plus, if there is a large discrepancy in the pay, pride can take over, deterring candidates OR even worse, those candidates continue to get hit up by recruiters and end up taking something that pays more after a short stint with your organization. Understanding the current market is key when looking to add new members to your team, which is exactly where we start when taking on a new search. Then, we build a plan of attack, discuss flexibility points and communicate what the market is saying back. Successful hiring not only takes a team effort, it also requires market insight and knowledge to edge out your competition.

As a fellow clinician and clinician supporter, I'm always on the lookout for resources that will help you in your career journey. I recently joined as a founding member to a community called Humans in Healthcare, led by Amy Story and I'm sharing with you because you should consider joining too! Humans in Healthcare is a unique and growing community of diverse clinicians who are using their gifts, talents, and abilities to be the change we want to see. Humans in Healthcare is a space for clinicians to find community, creativity, and humanity. Here, you are more than a credential --- you are a human who is allowed to grow, change, and evolve. The collective lived experience in this space is rare. You'll find seasoned clinical tech leaders, policy and program experts, product-minded builders, solo or entrepreneurs, and front-line clinicians and SMEs who are taking their knowledge and experience to the next level -- all within the same space ready and willing to help, support, and care for one another. We have regular office hours and discussion topics around careers, leadership, and the unique challenges of clinician creators, a growing career and leadership-centric resource library, and dedicated space for networking and peer support, and a private job board for nonclinical roles hiring clinicians. The shared humanity and compassion are magic. The collective lived experience is rare. The heart of healthcare is human. We are bringing humanity back to healthcare. https://lnkd.in/e7z6nkjK (Link is affiliate)

The Biggest Threats to Outpatient Physical Therapy Clinics 🏥 - changes in government reimbursement for services and/or new payment policies may result in a reduction in revenue, an increase in costs, and a reduction in profitability - adverse economic conditions, including an inflationary environment, could cause a continuation in increases in the price of labor and other operating expenses - shortages in available qualified PTs/PTAs, and/or the ability to attract/retain therapists could limit the ability to staff facilities - shortages in qualified PTs/PTAs could cause an increase in dependence on contract labor, increase efforts in recruiting/train new employees, and expand initiatives to retain existing staff, which could increase operating costs - public threats such as a global pandemic, or widespread outbreak of an infectious disease, could negatively impact patient volume, revenues, increase labor/operating costs, disrupt global financial markets, and/or further legislative/regulatory actions which impact healthcare providers as well as Medicare/medicaid programs - government investigations or assertion that a regulation violation took place may result in sanctions, reputation harms, and increased costs - acquisitions or joint ventures may prove difficult or unsuccessful, use significant resources, and/or exposure to unforeseen liabilities - third party payors may adopt payment policies that could limit future revenue/profitability - failure to maintain established relationships with physicians in served areas could reduce revenue/profitability - competition could limit the ability to grow and result in a decrease in revenue/profitability - the loss of key members of the management team could significantly disrupt business operations - a security breach of IT/EMR systems may subject a business to potential legal/reputational harm Did I miss anything? DON'T become a doctor. That's what 20+ physicians told me when I worked in the hospital.🏥 I asked them, "If you could go back and do it again, would you still become a doctor?" The answer was overwhelmingly "NO." 😲 Their reasons? 👉🏼 Lack of autonomy 👉🏼 Stressed and unhealthy 👉🏼 Frustrated at the system 👉🏼 Single without time to date 👉🏼 Overworked and under paid 👉🏼 Divorced twice after 10 years 👉🏼 Missed out on a decade of life 👉🏼 Not enough time with their kids ...............And the list went on................ So I had to reassess. What should I do with my career? 🤔 ___________ This is what happens to THOUSANDS of prospective doctors each year. They see the dissatisfaction They hear doctors' honest opinion And look elsewhere to establish a career. No wonder we're short on physicians! ________________ As for me, Although it's frustrating at times, I LOVE healthcare. I also love data and process improvement. Now I support healthcare leaders all over the US, providing analytics and Epic support to make their lives easier. ❤️ ___________________ Non-Clinicians in healthcare: ➡ How did you get here? That’s one side of the mirror. In fact when I became a doctor I had plenty of time to speak and TALK with my patients And a few hours to burocratic work. Nowadays we have plenty of time in computers trying to assess digital plataforms to fill, in order to “serve” a huge hierarquy of informatics and administrators. And the time to speak, talk and empathise with patients, be came shorter and shorter. That’ s a way of practice medicine that is no more actrative and is perhaps a pervasive form of practicing medicine. Doctors are humanistic scientists, not burocratic performers. That is why many of them gabe and give up actually. In adition they wont be autonomous and not beeing manipulated by patients and administrations.
