The Fuel Insecurity Fund was a vital part of Scottish households' defence against surging energy bills. And it is far too soon for politicians to think the crisis is over. But the Scottish Government can only do so much. We need all politicians to unite behind reform to standing charges, changes to energy markets and a proper windfall tax to fund more support for those in vulnerable households or energy debt. https://lnkd.in/eengVMDA

LIHEAP is such an essential #utility assistance program for low income communities across the country yet it is severely underfunded. Maximum funding at 5.1 billion is still not hardly enough money to assist those who need it and over half of the individuals who are eligible do not receive LIHEAP funds. Every winter I join The National Energy and Utility Affordability Coalition (NEUAC) in DC educating congressional members on #LIHEAP and its importance but the funding still is not nearly where it needs to be. In these harsh economic times where so many are struggling to make ends meet, LIHEAP is the program to urge your legislators to support and increase #funding.
LIHEAP is our country’s first line of defense against energy poverty. It needs funded at levels that will make possible year-round programming for both heating and cooling emergencies.

‘They have tried to increase our direct debit to stupid amounts - as in five to six hundred pounds a month - and we've basically told them, we can't feed our children if you do that. Even with two young children in the house, they didn't care.' Like two million others, Rachel, an NHS Receptionist, is in debt to her energy supplier. Watch this heart-breaking report by Channel 4 News from the key constituency of Stoke On Trent North, which has one of the highest rates of fuel poverty in the country. National Energy Action (NEA) reports that over two million households owe over £3 billion of household energy debt. And they’ve released figures showing that 5.3 million UK households will still be in fuel poverty - that’s 1 million more than in October 2021 - despite the small decrease in the energy price cap today that has fuelled the drop in inflation that prompted Prime Minister to call the General Election. The UK is facing a debt crisis that needs urgent & radical action. Public debt pulls families deeper into poverty & traps them. Public debt is a key factor in entrenching & increasing child poverty. The state should be there to help people get out of debt, not entrench it. The next UK Government must: 💙Implement a comprehensive debt amnesty programme for low-income families prioritising public debt 💚End public debt recovery practices that push families into poverty 💛Develop a centralised debt collection system The next UK government must make ending child poverty their priority. Read our full manifesto and 5 immediate priorities for the next UK Government 👇https://lnkd.in/dBjY5f84 #GeneralElection24

The collective energy debt in the UK now amounts to £3.1 billion. Fuel poverty charity National Energy Action stated that the average debt has increased by around 50% over the last 12 months, and the number of households in debt has risen by 20%. They also estimated that even with the new lower price cap levels, about six million households in the UK will be in fuel poverty. Statistics like this are why we at Ecogee work so hard to improve energy efficiency and make homes easier to heat and retain that heat. Nobody should have to live in fuel poverty, so we’re doing all we can to stamp it out for good. https://lnkd.in/dN8322E8 #Ecogee #ECO #EnergyBusiness #Liverpool #NorthWest #Energy
