My first data analyst role required 3+ years of analytics experience. I read the description and while it said that, I applied anyway. So you might think, why would I apply for something I wasn’t “qualified” for? To be honest, I read the description and felt I could 100% do that job. That’s it. Companies set these years of experience standards up and most of the time, it’s nowhere near what it accurately should be. Don’t skip over an application because you don’t think you fit that one criteria. If you truthfully feel like you can do the job, apply for the dang job.

You can assume a breadth of tool experience, and related tool experience can substitute at this level. When you interview Junior Analysts you should ask questions about tools.
