Baringa has conducted a comprehensive study on financing and delivery models for new nuclear power in Sweden. The study was carried out for the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise and considers Europe's return to nuclear power providing key recommendations for Sweden's nuclear new build plans. Our consultants identified three models for Sweden's nuclear ambitions and explored revenue sharing and risk mitigation. This decision is part of a larger USD 6 billion investment under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aimed at sustaining the U.S.'s existing nuclear reactor fleet. With nuclear power providing nearly 50% of the USA's carbon-free electricity, this move underscores the importance of nuclear energy in achieving clean energy goals and ensuring a reliable energy supply. There are currently 439 nuclear reactors in operation globally, with an estimated 413GW of operating capacity in 2022, accounting for around 10% of global power production. Under the International Energy Agency's (IEA) Net Zero Scenario, the nuclear industry would need to nearly double its capacity by 2050. A nuclear reactor takes 10-20 years to build, we need over 400 of them to reach net zer0 by 2050, where is the money coming from?

ARTICLE: Ground was broken on the world’s first potential coal-to-nuclear power plant transition in June. Existing transmission lines and water infrastructure (necessary for cooling both coal-fired power equipment and nuclear reactors), means developers could cut significant time and costs off of plant construction. The World Nuclear Association finds that costs associated with the lifespan of nuclear plants are heavily weighted toward the capital required to construct the facility, making up at least 60 percent of their levelized cost of electricity. A 2022 Department of Energy report found new nuclear power plants could cut construction costs by more than one-third.

TerraPower, the nuclear reactor company founded by Bill Gates, is moving forward with plans to begin preparatory construction activities for its demonstration Natrium advanced nuclear plant in Kemmerer, Wyoming. I had the chance to interview Chris Levesque, the company’s president and chief executive, who shared that preparatory non-nuclear construction will start in the coming months, with a nuclear construction license expected to be submitted to US regulators this spring. Natrium combines a 345-MW Generation IV sodium fast reactor with an energy storage system which aims to provide grid flexibility to meet future electricity demand. They are, Out of step, out of time. Soon to be decommissioned. It will be interesting as the fission fuel shortage becomes real as they try to treble the industry and advances in the renewables, hydrogen grid variable generation and batteries as a system solution of energy generation for the whole of the world not just 39 countries out of 189 not just the rich but for all without weaponisation, without pollution of our waterways and without the need to bury waste that is dangerous for 1000 of tears what a waste of time you are here. Fission is an interim unlike fusion and renewables, with the grid-attached variable hydrogen generators and batteries which are deploying faster in 189 countries as opposed to the 39 that fission can Fission fuel.
