🚨 Heads up: random reflection incoming 🚨 Every successful business has its own set of metrics for gauging progress. At SITE planning + design, we don't just rely on financials; our success is also measured by: - cultivating a strong culture that embodies our values of integrity, purpose, curiosity + collaboration - working with great clients + great project teams on great projects - being proud of the projects we work on + the positive outcomes they deliver for the client, location + community - advocating for industrial land use, infrastructure + supply chains #planningfreightfriendlycitiesandregions - paying it forward to support the next generation of urban + regional planning professionals + our future leaders …amongst others. But two great conversations this week have made me stop, reflect + add a new measure to our list: - the SITE experience, specifically leaving a positive lasting impression with people through every engagement...no matter how short or long the shared journey...be it a phone conversation, meeting, deputation, negotiating a project approval or delivering a project outcome. Though it has been implicit in our culture, approach + ethos since Day 1, we were yet to put in writing...until now. The mark we leave on others speaks to our values + commitment to delivering not just projects, but memorable experiences that build meaningful connections + foster collaboration, ultimately leading to exceptional outcomes for our cities, towns, regions + communities, one interaction at a time.

System Planning is indeed a pivotal approach, especially in densely populated urban areas where the complexity of requirements, challenges and constraints necessitates thoughtful consideration of potential solutions. It is a process that demands not only the involvement of primary stakeholders but also a broader engagement strategy that encompasses various community groups, conservation trusts, and local authorities. As part of the Improving Urban Waters programme, we exemplify this approach by extending our collaborative efforts beyond the core multi-organisational integrated team. Such partnerships are invaluable, as they foster a sense of shared purpose and ensure that diverse perspectives are considered in the decision-making process.   I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the City of Edinburgh Council and Stephen Knox for hosting us for an all-day information & communication session, whereby we presented our plans and approaches, as a testament to the IUW programme's commitment to open dialogue and transparency. By presenting our proposed strategies and fostering discussions, the programme is able to align its objectives with those of the community and identify synergies for joint solution development. I've delivered workshops for each of their supply chains through the Supply Chain Sustainability School (UK) in the last few months on how to #identify, #prevent,#manage and #mitigate the risks of slavery and #labourexploitation and the importance of effective #remediation. It's great to see the, 'How can we support you?' approach instead of the 'Please provide assurance of zero forced labour' is gaining traction. #Collaborating with the supply chain and providing a #victimfirst approach, rather than box ticking and risk dumping 🙏🏼 Attendees included site operations, customer facing, commercial, procurement, contract managers, HR, legal, HSE, sustainability, recruitment - all sharing honest insights, suggestions and challenges. THANK you to everyone who joined me and got stuck in. I hope you've been raising awareness (both in and out of work) and taking forward some of those actions we discussed. The first challenge we need to address is the #myth, 'It won't or doesn't happen here'. It really does, and everyone has a role to play.
