CAN DAVID CHANDLER AND OFFSITE CONSTRUCTION RESTORE TRUST IN AUSTRALIA’S BUILDING INDUSTRY? Not by themselves….   There are many good points that are worth breaking down for a quicker read and to enable discussion, debate, and most importantly action.   But first off, No one person, organisation, agency, or solution can restore the trust, capability, and efficiency of Australia's Building Industry. Genuine Partnerships and starting the change are key.   Let’s start at the end “Australia’s construction industry can enter a new era – one defined by quality, efficiency, and reliability.” and sustainable growth “By embracing new technologies, fostering more viable enterprises, a skilled workforce, and prioritising consumer trust”. Intentional Change Management is fundamental: it is no surprise there is resistance to change, we need to engage with all levels and stakeholders in property (from government to tenants and owners and the key supply chain in between) to understand resistance and support change and adoption. We need to evolve our enterprises and people who make them work through new skills development and attraction of a diverse workforce to an industry with options. Evidence that can be seen, touched, tested and understood. Construction Innovation Hubs centres) led by industry and supported by government and research. Sandpits, for co-creating, prototyping, testing and failing outside of market while delivering proven outcomes to market. (If you know me you will know I could insert a rant about IP… but will save that for later.) Display Centres which showcase the best industry has to offer to both industry and to the public.  A unified, national approach and harmonisation of regulations influencing construction is crucial for creating the conditions that allow planning, design and construction to thrive. This also includes harmonisation of terminology, with clear definitions and supporting imagery to help understanding.   I will continue to push Modern Methods of Construction as an overarching summary of what needs to be adopted across the industry. Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) describes a broad spectrum of construction methodology, systems, processes, and products that seek to improve the whole ecosystem to provide better efficiency, value for money, quality, and sustainable outcomes from the Construction Industry.   Based on this, MMC talks to not just the products and types of construction but also talks to the systems, processes, and business models that enhance the planning, design, construction, manufacture, and operation of built form.   And to end, at the beginning…   ''Transparency'' and ''Trust is fundamental to reshaping Australia’s construction industry''.
