The following defines their jobs and how we use them at NCIS: 1805 - Investigative Analysis Series: This series covers positions that involve conducting investigations, analyzing information, and producing intelligence reports related to national security, law enforcement, and other sensitive areas. Employees in this series may work for agencies such as NCIS, DHS, DEA, or other intelligence and law enforcement organizations. Typical job titles include Intelligence Analyst, Investigative Analyst, and Criminal Investigative Analyst. The work involves gathering, analyzing, and disseminating information to support investigations and decision-making processes. 0132 - Intelligence Series: This series encompasses positions involving collecting, analyzing, and disseminating intelligence information related to national security and foreign relations. Employees in this series may work for agencies that are a part of the Intel Community.  Typical job titles include Intelligence Officer, Intelligence Research Specialist, and Intelligence Operations Specialist. While both series involve intelligence and analysis work, the 1805 series focuses more on investigations and law enforcement, while the 0132 series is centered on foreign intelligence and national security. The report is just a statement of concerns from your colleague. It's just a piece of information. Reporters frequently choose words inaccurately. Either they misunderstand what "retaliation" or "discrimination" actually mean, for example, or they believe that dropping those words into a report adds seriousness to their information. Do not categorize the report, assign it, or investigate it depending on the words the Reporter chose. Do not take the Reporter's characterization at face value. Be sure to understand the facts behind the labels and make your own determination regarding the type of matter into which the report falls.
