Fellow Helldivers, we are so back. Arrowhead Games have listened to their players and buffed everything in the name of democracy, and the effects on the player base have been immediate. Helldivers 2's first major patch, part of Arrowhead's 60-day plan, focuses on keeping players alive longer and making Bots and Bugs easier to kill. The patch brings a 4,500-word update, with key changes including a reduction in headshot damage from 100% to 50%, though damage to other body parts is increased to maintain gameplay intensity. Arrowhead promises more updates and is actively seeking player feedback for future improvements, with another balance pass planned by Day 60. Reminder: In a game, especially one without player-vs-player, updates should prioritize fun above all else.

In the latest episode of "It Actually Happened During My Lifetime," the game Banana, where the entire gameplay loop involves... clicking a banana... to change the number printed on top, was the most played game on Steam last night. Today, it holds the number two spot, boasting more players than Destiny 2, Rust, War Thunder, Warframe, Monster Hunter: World, Sid Meier's Civilization VI, Stardew Valley, Team Fortress 2, and HELLDIVERS 2 combined. If you want to understand where the break has occurred between pouring $400M into the games grist mill and having "financially profitable AAA success" predictably come out the other side, start here with this solo-developed game that involves... clicking on a banana. In the meantime, I'm going to go... eat a banana. P.S. Watch out for the Attack of the Clones. There are a million of them coming or already here.

Last week, the Steam Next Fest took place, showcasing indie game releases for the coming months. I've uncovered for you the most underrated games that are going to be hits upon release ⬇️ Feed the Deep, created and published by the highly talented Luke Muscat, will delight deep-sea explorers. Procedurally generated underwater caves, resources to collect from their depths, which can be exchanged for upgrades and items to explore even deeper. All this in a heavy atmosphere enhanced by the original soundtrack from maestro Cedar Jones. The second gem is Waltz and Jam, a little bundle of cuteness in which you play as a ghost and an adorable little dog. A delightful blend of old Zelda and Little Big Planet, by the South Korean studio Flyway Games , where creative use of equipment is at the heart of the gameplay. The new game from unexpected games Artisan TD, is a tower defense game in which you must build "tower mazes to deliver the souls of magical warriors corrupted by the TITANS." The quality of the animations, the design of the characters and towers, and the universe have everything to please tower defense fans. In addition to its undeniable qualities, the game benefits from the visibility of Adrien Nougaret alias ZeratoR, a french content creator who owns Unexpected. The game’s demo is among the most played of the Steam Next Fest. What are the other underrated upcoming games in your opinion? #indiegames #gamedevelopment #gaming

I've been getting asked a lot about Deadlock's potential. When it launches on Steam, I expect it to hit 3 million concurrent players—and that’s just the beginning. Deadlock successfully combines traditional MOBA gameplay with shooter mechanics, attracting a broad and passionate audience. This fusion allows players familiar with both genres to find common ground and dive into the game. On the shooting side of things, I would go further and say Deadlock is a movement shooter. The nuances and what players can achieve during the game is up there with shooter standouts like Titanfall 2. The big reason I think Deadlock can blow past the 3 million concurrent player count, is that the game works on console. Even though the game doesn't support it, I have been playing Deadlock on a controller. There are some things missing, however, the experience even in its current state has been more than playable. On top of that If a 3rd person shooter works on controller, it can also work on mobile. Deadlock could be that unicorn game that works on PC, console and mobile on day one...whenever that could be.

Our first mission into the slot galaxy? Gustavo El Luchador—a game that perfectly captured the PearFiction spirit. Gustavo wasn’t just another slot game; it was a fully fleshed-out world, complete with its own characters, storylines, and a big dose of humor. Players loved stepping into the ring with Gustavo, and it gave us the confidence that we were on the right path. But we didn’t stop there. Next up was Outer Space Invaders, a game that let us stretch our creative muscles even further. This wasn’t just any slot game; it was a thrilling adventure through the cosmos, filled with aliens, ray guns, and plenty of surprises. It was our way of saying, “We’re here to stay, and we’re bringing the fun with us.” Both games were a blast to create and set the stage for what PearFiction would become: a studio known for its unique blend of storytelling, humour, and top-tier gameplay. And let’s just say, the best was yet to come. #10YRSOFPEAR

🎮🏆 And the nominees for Game Of The Year are... Mostly RPGs! 🔴 There's a good mix of developers and publishers represented across this year's nominations, however 2024 seems to be the year of the RPG, with three of the six nominated titles falling into this genre. Although one of these, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, arguably should not have been eligible due to being DLC. It's the first time additional content has been up for the award and it's causing some controversy, but we'll leave that there and move on! The latest instalment of the Final Fantasy VII remake, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth makes the cut for Square Enix and then we have the most recently released title in the list and new IP, Metaphor ReFantazio completing the RPG set. 🃏 Balatro is the only small indie title up for game of the year, it's taken the industry by storm since it's launch back in February, and rightly so, it's a difficult game to put down! It's in the top 10 most highly rated games released this year, so a massive congratulations to the developer LocalThunk and Publisher PlayStack. ⚔ Another new IP, Black Myth: Wukong, was a little bit of a surprise hit when it released in late August. There was some negative press around the studio itself and a few small gameplay frustrations, but critical reviews were strong, with a global average of 82. There are, however, nearly 50 other new titles with higher review scores, so should Black Myth: Wukong really be on this list? 🤖 Finally, the highest critically rated game released in 2024 to date, and a nomination for Publisher Sony for the 10th year in a row is the super cute Astro Bot. So, there are 3 new IPs, 3 RPGs, 1 Roguelike Deck Builder, 1 Action Adventure and 1 Platformer, all predominantly single player, making up the 6 nominees for the Game of The Year 2024! Which game is your game of the year? Follow us to follow the trend ▶ https://shorturl.at/krEN4 As video game specialists we're actively tracking over 35,000 PC & Console titles. #VideoGames #TheGameAwards #Data

What Really Makes a Game Memorable? Some games entertain us. Others stay with us forever. But what makes a game truly memorable? Is it the story? The mechanics? The emotions it leaves behind? For me, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty was unforgettable. Not just because of the world, the visuals, or the branching choices—but because of the feeling it created. The tension, the desperation, the moral weight of every decision. The way it pulled me into a world that felt real, even when everything around me was falling apart. Memorable games aren't just played—they're experienced. They stick with us long after the credits roll, making us reflect, feel, and sometimes even change the way we see things. What’s a game that left a lasting impression on you? And what do you think makes a game truly unforgettable? #GameDesign #GameDev #Cyberpunk2077 #PhantomLiberty #MemorableGames #Storytelling #ImmersiveGaming #GameDevelopment
