We thought it might be nice to share a little more insight into why we got started, and what gets us out of bed in the morning. Renee and I have worked together for many years, myself in Casting both abroad and here in Sydney, and Renee as an Agent as well as managing an acting college. We loved our careers and cared deeply for our Industry, however we’d often discuss the barriers that were stopping our Industry from creating our best work. Casting is a complicated endeavour, to put it mildly! But what we found from working at the coalface was that no-one was getting a great experience. For Artists, in an age of authenticity, there hasn’t been a platform which enables them to truly showcase their craft in the best possible light. Although the rise in self taping has meant more opportunities, there’s little transparency throughout the audition and casting process for Artists and their Agents. This is simply because the administration has become unsustainable for Casting and there hasn’t been a seamless way to provide updates and feedback. Everything felt fractured and creative standards weren’t being met. Where’s the longevity in all of this for our Industry? We couldn’t accept that this is how things had to be. Our industry deserves better. We believe creatives should have superior tools that deliver and inspire definitive work. So we decided to start Altai, driven by one simple but powerful thought: Creatives first. Always. Designed from the ground up with modern workflows in mind to get rid of all the admin headaches and let people focus on what they’re passionate about - creating great work. That’s what inspires and drives us to do our best work - not just Renee and I, but our whole team. We want this to be your platform as much as ours…so we can all focus on doing what we love doing. Sincerely, thank you for your support so far. We’re well on our way and rest assured, this is just the beginning. Josh https://lnkd.in/dtunzE99

Co-founder @Viddsee | Creator Operator - I help creators grow their audience, sales and dreams | Building empathy and driving action with stories
Have you championed for something you love deeply? I just read that the viral short film "nothing, except everything" is getting adapted to a feature film with Darren Aronofsky (dir. of The Whale, Black Dawn, and early classics like Requiem for a Dream and Pi) and got me excited and reflecting here. I grew up with the power of creation. Digital video made it cheaper to shoot and early rampant piracy gave me softwares to play with. At a young age, that's very empowering. Imagine what you can do with a camera in hand. I always called it printing what's in head on for others to see. To tell the stories in your own point of view. Your stories. And that was a power I held in my hands. But I didn't grow up with distribution like today, where we have YouTube and social media for marketing. My early films would travel at film festivals, picked up by curators who watched it and would pay it forward in their own festivals for others to watch, and so on. Then the festival life will run out, giving way to newer films. We would then manage our own distribution by renting a local screen, and invite family, friends and their friends to come watch the films. Not scalable, as you can imagine. It was a big reason why I started Viddsee, the filmmaker-creator platform for short films, so that my films won't collect dust as DVDs in the book shelfs, waiting to be opened again or never. And with Viddsee, I started hearing stories of films that didn’t do well at the festivals, but got a new lease of life online. But not everyone embraced this idea. Films are meant for the big screen. Not the tiny screen on your computer or phones. And I agree. But I think what I was gunning for something else, I wanted to spread my love for stories. Not everyone could travel to festivals. Short films were not surfacing up on algorithms on social media or YouTube as widely too. And I wanted to protect the heart of why we tell stories, so that our audiences can watch them. And for us to translate that empathy we saw in our characters and stories, and drive that little action of impact and change to someone who is watching our stories. And then I think about my kids now, they are given the power of distribution. And they will be gifted with a new power of creation once again. An example is Gen AI, where kids can co-create high quality content with machines easily. They can create worlds and populate them with characters. And at the heart of it, storytelling still matters. They will still need to learn the fundamentals of storytelling. They will need to experience stories, in life. And that’s what I’m advocating always. Stories. Curious, what is it that you advocate and champion for? PS I'm excited that Wesley Wang has this opportunity to adapt his short as a feature! It's what I was championing at Viddsee, to see the short films have a new lease of life on a bigger stage and screen! #stories #storytelling #filmmaking [photo: poster from IMDb]

Team building Expert | LinkedIn Top Voice | Forbes featured | I help executives manage change, foster innovation, & boost their bottom line 🇨🇦 🇯🇲 Actress 🎬 Writer 📃 ✍🏽
🎬 Team Innovation: HectiQ Artists takes a Team Approach to Agenting 📃 🖋 A few months ago, my former talent agent made the tough decision to close the agency. After an extensive search, I signed with HectiQ. I've been represented by talent agents for a while now. I was immediately struck by Christopher Bennett's fresh approach. We started with a Zoom call followed uo with a blue sky brainstorming session. Talent stays conneced through WhatsApp. Christopher and his wife, Kate, regularly host workshops with coaches and casting directors. "We created a system where we are talking to our clients constantly. We actually begin a WhatsApp social media thread with every client individually that never closes. Instead of living in a world where you’ve got to see if you can get some time with your agent, you always have it. We’re always there. We’re a message away. We can jump on a video call, we can jump on an audio call, we can share some messages and talk about some ideas together. It never stops. I’m living in a very millennial-type social media agency model that seems to give my clients that feeling of, “I’m connected to my agent. My agent knows me, I know them, I can reach them and talk to them whenever I want.” We put together a lot of workshops and a lot of important conversation sessions with our clients at no cost to them. We absorb the cost, we bring in some big casting directors, we bring in directors or subject matter experts on things every single month and we really bring our clients together. And then we’ve got a board of advisors that is unique that has been important to us. I run big decisions by them, and they’re pivotal in us helping to come up with a growth strategy, how to help treat every client uniquely, when to prioritize a type of role over another, what seasons, all that kind of stuff." SOURCE: Casting Networks It's an innovative approach to agenting thats paying off. 📃 🖋 Have you ever been represented by talent or literary agent? Come share your experience.
