If you’re weighing the pros and cons of the various solutions for helping to eliminate carbon from your onsite power, Toby Gill’s recent article for New Civil Engineer is an interesting read. Where electrification and battery storage isn’t enough to meet your site’s needs (perhaps you need larger power draws, or you can’t get a grid connection at all), fuel-agnostic power can help you transition to using 100% renewable fuels, without putting yourself at risk of today’s high costs and unreliable supply chains. Read more on IPG Energy’s blog - https://bit.ly/48ie4ek #SustainableConstruction #GreenFuels #FuelAgnosticPower #NetZero
While electrification will be a great enabler for some construction sites to achieve their carbon reduction targets, there will always be those without sufficient grid access to completely eliminate fossil fuel-based power at scale. Fuel will still be needed for these use cases. But switching from diesel to 100% renewable fuels today can mean up to a 300% increase in cost, alongside the risk of finding you’ve invested in the ‘wrong’ infrastructure further down the line. Fuel-agnostic power offers a very real solution for overcoming these challenges, and one I was happy to shed some more light on in my recent article for New Civil Engineer. Great insights to the Environmental impact to building 'Clean Energy' devices. Spend 12 minutes, with a critical eye towards what is consumed to put in place a Wind Turbine with a Life Cycle of 20 years (optimistically) or 12 years (pragmatically). All this steel & concrete comes at a significant environmental cost, as well as the consumption of resources that are getting scarcer by the day. For my two cents worth, Arron Witt does a great job of providing perspectives into major civil engineering projects around the world. It really is fascinating as to what the Human Race is getting up to on a daily basis, out of sight of mainstream media... #innovation #management #cleanenergy https://lnkd.in/gkYJ-u4x

Increasing delays and costs when it comes to grid connections have been making the headlines a lot lately. Invariably, this has an impact on the drive to net zero and take-up of renewables. It also critically impacts investment, because everything needs power to work – whether commercially or new housing developments. Chris Glover, Director of the Total Utilities Management team at Buro Happold, talks about the conundrum when we focus on transmission rather than distribution. He also asks why the rate of change is so slow and what needs to be addressed to get out of idle and into second gear for effective reform of the system so we can achieve real change.
