Our article, "Improving Professional Governance in Nursing: Applying Organizational Gap Analysis and Strategy Implementation in MICU Council by Ellie Jun, DNP, RN, CCRN, Reynaldo R. Rivera, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, FAONL, Kasey Jackman, PhD, RN, PMHNP-BC, FAAN, and Barbara Niedz, PhD, RN" is now available online! This quality improvement project was undertaken to strengthen professional governance within the medical intensive care unit (MICU) amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. #HealthcareNews - UK HealthCare and Eastern State Hospital have earned Magnet designation, the highest institutional honor for nursing excellence granted by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program. Less than 10 percent of U.S. hospitals currently have Magnet status. Healthcare organizations earn the distinction by satisfying rigorous criteria measuring strength and quality of nursing. Magnet status recognizes environments that the ANCC believes attract and retain high-quality nurses who provide exceptional patient care. The goal of Magnet status is to identify and highlight nursing excellence. Magnet hospitals tend to have: - A low patient-to-nurse ratio. - Lower mortality rates for surgical patients. - Lower hospital-associated infection rates. - A shorter average length of stay for stroke patients. Cardiology Nursing Series Post #2: Role of a Cardiovascular Nurse Cardiovascular nurses play a crucial role in managing heart conditions, improving patient outcomes, and delivering high-quality care. Their responsibilities include: -Patient Assessment: Thorough evaluations, identifying symptoms, and monitoring vital signs. -Care Management: Developing personalised care plans tailored to each patient's condition. -Administering Treatments: Medication administration and assisting with procedures like angiograms and catheterisations. -Patient Education: Informing patients about lifestyle changes, medication adherence, and managing their heart conditions. -Advocacy: Acting as patient advocates, ensuring ethical and safe care delivery. In the UK, cardiovascular nursing is a diverse field, with various specialist roles, including: -Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS): These advanced practice nurses provide expert care, often leading specific services like heart failure or arrhythmia management. -Heart Failure Nurses: Specialize in managing patients with chronic heart failure, helping to reduce hospital readmissions and improve quality of life. -Rehabilitation Nurses: Focus on cardiac rehabilitation, assisting patients in recovering post-heart surgery or heart attacks through education and tailored exercise programs. -Acute Care Cardiovascular Nurses: Provide immediate care to patients with acute conditions like myocardial infarctions, arrhythmias, and angina. Each specialty plays a critical role in the broader cardiology team, contributing to better patient outcomes and continuity of care. Cardiovascular nurses are indispensable in managing both acute and chronic heart conditions across the healthcare spectrum. #CardiologyNursing #NursingSpecialists #PatientCare #Healthcare #RegisteredNurse #RNs #HealthcarePractitioners References: Anderson, D. #Nurses can impact #healthpolicy! Check out these examples of ways nurses have changed the #healthcare delivery system. #nursesonlinkedin #healthcareonlinkedin
As we continue our legislative task force efforts, we were inspired by Dr. Melinda Kidder DHA, MSN, RN, CENP's session on Nurse-Led Advocacy. It highlighted some remarkable achievements driven by #nurses that have already made a significant impact on healthcare policy: 1. Lymphedema Treatment Act: Nurses actively raised awareness about lymphedema and its treatment needs, sharing patient stories and lobbying for equitable insurance coverage, which ultimately led to the passage of this vital legislation. 2. Palliative Care and Cancer Drug Parity: Nurses advocated for this act by highlighting the importance of equitable access to palliative care and oral cancer medications, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive and compassionate care. 3. Title VII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act: Nurses participated in grassroots efforts to secure funding for nursing education and workforce development, recognizing that a strong nursing workforce is essential for quality healthcare. These are just a few great examples that illustrate the powerful role nurses play in shaping healthcare policy and advocating for the needs of patients. 💪❤️ We must keep advocating for the needs of our profession and how it links to the greater healthcare system. Happy Tuesday LinkedIn! Here are 10 Helpful Nursing Tips in post Acute Care - 1. Practice the Pause - When things are getting out of hand, pause. Take a breath...Then continue. You are more likely to make a mistake when you are flustered. 2. Coffee Grounds at the Nursing station can help neutralize odors without using chemicals! 3. Hard to find a residents vein? Try using a warm compress on the area to help locate smaller or "rolling" veins. 4. Easily Nauseated? dab peppermint oil or an alcohol swab in your mask or under you nose to stop it in its tracks. 5. Triple Glove - after cleaning up the initial mess you can remove the first set. You will then already be ready to dress the resident. The third set is to get the new linens on the bed. This will save you precious time which can also help preserve the resident's dignity. 6. Post It Notes in your pocket! Jot notes down when making rounds. Stick it to the computer screen for easy charting when you return to your station! 7. Give the "hovering" family a job - this will keep them busy and give them a sense of purpose while their loved one is receiving care. This can be, applying lotion, changing socks, making sure the residents water stays full etc. Simple yet effective. 8. When trying to monitor accurate breathing, let the resident know you are "just checking their pulse". This gives you a more accurate and organic breath count. 9. Soak Dobhoff tubes in Ice water before placement. This helps the tube slide straight down and reduces the gag reflex of the resident. 10. Don't forget to hit that FOLLOW button to keep up to date with current Interim and Perm role within the Post Acute communities! #Tobin #NationalBrand #Healthcare #eldercare #LNHA #RN #TravelNursing #ExecutiveDirector #LTC #LongTermCare #SNF #SkilledNursing #NFA #NHA #LPN #Nurse #Healthcarerecruiter #tuesdaytips Peg Tobin, RN Henry Smith Lisa Webert-Murphy Chris Tobin

🥼 😷 The Nursing Revolution: Redefining Roles in a Changing Healthcare Landscape 😷 🥼 I believe nursing is on the brink of a significant evolution, with new opportunities emerging for RNs and RPNs as a result of Nurse Practitioners being able to bill the province. While this change creates new possibilities for NPs, it will also reshape the roles of other healthcare professionals. As NPs focus more on higher-level clinical responsibilities and billing for services, gaps will naturally appear in areas they traditionally managed, such as patient education, care coordination, and routine assessments. This creates a unique opportunity for RPNs and RNs to step into these spaces, expand their scope of practice, and take greater control of their careers. By leveraging their skills and seeking additional training or certifications, RNs and RPNs can position themselves to effectuvely fill these gaps. They can become the go-to professionals for personalized patient care, preventative health initiatives, and support services that are so important to the overall healthcare system. This shift not only enhances career prospects but also elevates the role of nursing as an indispensable layer in healthcare delivery. The future of nursing lies in adaptability and seizing these opportunities to redefine their traditional roles. This is a chance for RNs and RPNs to lead, innovate, and play a more integral part in today's dynamic healthcare environment. #NursingLeadership #HealthcareEvolution #CareerGrowth #NursePractitioners #FutureOfNursing #RNsAndRPNs #HealthcareInnovation #NursingOpportunities #PatientCare #ProfessionalGrowth

I recently came across an article from the International Journal of Nursing Studies highlighting the critical role of nursing staff in patient outcomes during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research is not new and underscores the longstanding connection between adequate staffing levels and improved patient survival rates, emphasizing the ongoing challenges in providing optimal care to the sickest and most vulnerable individuals. The focus on retention, recruitment, and reimbursement in the nursing profession remains essential. However, attracting younger generations to this profession poses a significant challenge. Despite the hurdles, the need for passionate individuals to join and enrich our profession is more pressing than ever. #Nursing #PatientCare #Healthcare #Covid19 #NursingStaff #HealthcareProfession
