EBRD Delegation Visits Kyiv to Strengthen Support for Ukraine’s Energy Sector A high-level delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), led by Matteo Patrone, Vice President, Banking, visited Kyiv this week to engage in discussions with Ukraine’s government and key energy companies on providing support to the country’s energy sector following the extensive Russian attacks on power generation facilities. Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the EBRD has significantly increased its investments in Ukraine, deploying €4.6 billion since 2022. Of this amount, at least €1 billion has been directed to energy companies, including Ukrenergo, Naftogaz, and Ukrhydroenergo. Energy security remains a top priority for Ukraine. 📢 New publication: Secure and Sustainable? Unveiling the Impact of the Russian War on EU Energy Governance This book chapter, authored by Michèle Knodt, Nils Bruch, and our Chairholder Marc Ringel, is part of the comprehensive volume "The War Against Ukraine and the EU", edited by Claudia Wiesner and Michèle Knodt. Their research provides a detailed analysis of how the war in Ukraine has influenced EU energy governance and the potential for these types of events to serve as a catalyst for the #EuropeanGreenDeal and broader energy transition efforts. Key insights: 🔎 Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine has significantly impacted the EU's energy policies, catapulting energy security to the top of the agenda. 🔎 Short-term responses have included the reactivation of coal-fired power plants and a shift to liquefied natural gas (LNG), leading to increased global energy prices. 🔎 The use of emergency legislation demonstrates the EU's agile response, albeit with noted challenges in democratic legitimacy. 🔎 The crisis highlights the interconnectedness of energy security and sustainability, potentially accelerating the EU’s energy transition. 📖 Read this chapter in the #OpenAccess book here >> https://lnkd.in/exSAsjhT #EU #EnergyGovernance #Sustainability #EnergySecurity #ClimatePolicy

Let's talk ENERGY. This is one of the key themes of London Climate Action Week, and it was also a pressing issue at the recent Ukraine Recovery Conference, underscoring the urgent need for reliable energy supplies. Once the Ukraine Recovery Conference was over, we met with our delivery partners of Abt Global in Ukraine, Kyiv School of Economics, Центр економічної стратегії / Centre for Economic Strategy, and KPMG, to discuss crucial lessons and next steps to drive Ukraine’s inclusive recovery and reconstruction. The energy sector is a pivotal area for investment and development. We must prioritise projects aimed at rebuilding and modernising energy infrastructure, with a significant focus on flexible and renewable energy capacities to reduce dependency on monopolies. At Abt, we recognise that sustainable energy solutions are fundamental to building resilient communities and ensuring long-term recovery and development. Addressing energy challenges is central to achieving broader climate and recovery goals. #LCAW2024 #URC2024 #ClimateAction #Ukraine

📌 June 11-12, Berlin, Germany. One of the most anticipated events of the year for Ukraine - Ukraine Recovery conference 2024 #URC2024 #URC We are pleased to announce that the Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation team will participate in the International Conference on Ukraine's Recovery - #URC2024! This is a large-scale event that will bring together leaders of governments, international organizations, business and civil society to discuss and implement strategies for the rapid recovery and long-term reconstruction of Ukraine. Why is it important 🎯? URC2024 continues to implement the principles set out at the first Lugano Conference in 2022, with a focus on economic resilience and Ukraine's future accession to the EU. The key goal of the conference is to consolidate international support for the recovery, reform and modernization of our country, including green energy. Our Foundation is an active participant in the energy reconstruction of Ukraine's social and critical infrastructure by installing hybrid solar power plants in war-affected schools and hospitals, initiating rapid recovery projects and attracting private investment in the development of alternative energy sources. This is the first time that the event will be hosted by an EU member state, and we are proud to be part of this historic event and look forward to meeting with colleagues, partners and media. We invite you to follow our updates and be a part of this important event. Together we can create a better future for Ukraine! 🇺🇦 The #URC2024 is organized with the support of the German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE) and the German-Ukrainian Energy Partnership, implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economy and Climate Action (BMWK), in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
