✅ Project Managers play a critical role when it comes to commissioning, since they are the "glue" between design, construction, and commissioning phases of capital projects. ✅Some Project Managers bring commissioning resources to projects early during FEED processes, because they understand that people need a clear vision of what success looks like during commissioning in order to achieve the cost and schedule objectives of projects. Commissioning groups can establish this for Project Managers, to guide the project team to a successful finish. ✅Other Project Managers decide to engage commissioning resources later in their project, maybe a few months before on-site testing begins. When this occurs, Project Managers then become responsible to establish the systems & processes required for commissioning early in projects. This requires them to re-align their WBS with how the project will be systematized and started up to achieve the project in-service date. ✅And other Project Managers aren't as familiar with the early commissioning requirements needed during FEED processes. And it's not their fault, because the systems & processes to manage commissioning early in projects are never explained to them in any of the project management literature they've read.

Project Managers - What is your role with commissioning? Project Managers play a critical role when it comes to commissioning, since they are the "glue" between design, construciton, and commissioning phases of capital projects. Some Project Managers bring commissioning resources to projects early during FEED processes, because they understand that people need a clear vision of what success looks like during commissioning in order to achieve the cost and schedule objectives of projects. Commissioning groups can establish this for Project Managers, to guide the project team to a successful finish. Other Project Managers decide to engage commissioning resources later in their project, maybe a few months before on-site testing begins. When this occurs, Project Managers then become responsible to establish the systems & processes required for commissioning early in projects. This requires them to re-align their WBS with how the project will be systematized and started up to achieve the project in-service date. And other Project Managers aren't as familiar with the early commissioning requriements needed during FEED processes. And it's not their fault, because the systems & processes to manage commissioning early in projects are never explained to them in any of the project management literature they've read. But when these critcal aspects of commissioning are left until later in the project, it can become very expensive to fix these mistakes later, with costly delays to address issues due to missing commissioning project management processes. If you would like to learn more about the project management processes required for commissioning early in projects, please join my next live webinar where we discuss the best practices for commissioning project management. Commissioning is important for project managers and project owners/developers to understand, since it’s the methodical project management method to finish capital projects. And since the definition of a project is a set of activities with a definite start and a definite finish, that makes commissioning one of the 2 most important aspects of capital projects.

The Issue Log is known as a dirty word in the construction industry. At Adaptive Commissioning Solutions, we pride ourselves on our commitment to delivering projects that exceed our clients' expectations, and one essential tool in our arsenal is our Issue Log, which plays a pivotal role in ensuring a better project for the owner. We've embraced a Lean culture to streamline our processes, tackle issues head-on, and drive continuous improvement. When issues are identified, our Lean approach empowers us to promptly address and clear them from the list. This not only speeds up the commissioning process but also minimizes disruptions and ultimately results in a smoother and more efficient project turnover to the facility owner. We believe in proactive problem-solving, and when we encounter issues in the field, we collaborate closely with the contractors to find immediate solutions, and not just walk off the site. This approach ensures that any hiccups are resolved on the spot, reinforcing our dedication to delivering a project that's not only on time but also of the highest quality. #beadaptive #commissioning #letsgo #leanculture

Happy to share my latest article. It is based on the work performed while being the General Manager for a NOV subsidiary in Norway. It is the latest one, in a row of several, starting back in 2010 when I had the pleasure of listening to Glenn Ballard and learning about the Last Planner System (LPS). We tried LPS out (according to our understanding) on an a shipbuilding project, and it worked really well. There was one drawback, however. The customers were used to the Earned Value Management approach. It was actually stipulated in the contract also. That led to double-work for our planners. To rectify the situation, we therefore tried to identify a way of combining the two. The work resulted in a journal article more than ten years ago, but the combined approach still had some shortcoming. My last job in industry enabled a final iteration of improvements, and here is the result. My take on this, after working on project execution since 2007 primarily in maritime- and oil & gas industry, is that the LPS makes EVM work. To make this combination explicit we gave it a separate name (Lean Project Planning). For those of you that wants to embark on a similar journey, I recommend starting with Glenn Ballard. Please feel free to comment - there is always new things to learn. :-) https://lnkd.in/d6A2g7jT

January is the universal month of stamping out bad habits 😀 It’s largely thought that Commissioning is ‘that bit at the end of a project’ and the value of bringing Commissioning methodologies into a project earlier, is often lost. We want to change that, because we know the impact early Commissioning considerations and processes can have on the project delivery in the three fundamental areas – time, cost, and quality! Here are some examples of common poor approaches to commissioning: 🌧 Insufficient forecasting Our commissioning management process is built with efficiency and time management at the forefront. From Preparation, all the way up until the Handover, project progress is carefully monitored and managed, to ensure that if problems arise, we spot them early, and are well-equipped to deal with them. ❓ Complex reporting A common trait of poorly monitored projects, is the lack of ability to understand the issues and progress being made. By understanding your complex needs, breaking them down into constituent parts and communicating them clearly to every moving part of the build team, we ensure that our client’s needs are met, and their expectations are exceeded first time. ⏰ Time over quality The quality of a result should never be overlooked in the name of a deadline. You’ll rest safe in the knowledge that we’re utterly meticulous throughout the commissioning process, and value-efficient and effective time management to ensure Commissioning is never ‘rushed’ to meet an expectation. Unlike most New Year's resolutions, ours aren't just for January! #commissioning #management #success
