Brother USA (Industries), has selected Kinaxis to increase visibility and collaboration within its global #supplychain, improve demand forecasting and create more accurate and agile scenario planning. The company required a supply chain management solution that could account for its expansive range of products and multitude of industry specific challenges, and provide complete end-to-end visibility. “In an industry with so many moving pieces, not having the right software in place makes it easy for things to get missed and for disruption in one area of the supply chain to drastically impact another. The only way to manage it is with complete visibility,” says Toshiya Kaneko, President at Kinaxis Japan. https://lnkd.in/gB4pC2SQ

Reading this article reminded me of how Just-In-Time manufacturing changed the world - and how COVID forces us to think about its inherent (and now tangible) weaknesses. Just-In-Time manufacturing system originated in Japan in the 1940/50s, and was adopted by large manufacturers around the globe by the 80s. JIT says that rather than storing all of the components to making a car, for example, order the exact quantities you need and assemble it once there is a need. This method slashed storage/warehousing costs for Japanese auto manufacturers, thereby enabling them to reduce the purchase price of their vehicle (great for us). JIT has now become the cornerstone of the LEAN manufacturing process adopted by the largest manufacturers in the world. I’d like to invite you to think about the implications of the supply chain issues that resulted from COVID. Can the first world exist without a second and third world? Are we ok with being so dependent on global supply knowing that the supply chain is as fragile as it has proved to be? And (in case you want to think big picture), what can we learn about this subject from the collapse of the Bronze Age? https://lnkd.in/gdCMZM7h

As an industry expert in Business and export/import agent, I wanted to share some key insights from a recent article published by Supply Chain Dive. The article discusses how a flood at a Porsche supplier's facility has led to an aluminum shortage, impacting the automaker's production line and potentially causing manufacturing shutdowns for certain vehicle series. Artificial intelligence plays a crucial role in managing supply chain disruptions like this one. The article mentions that Porsche has implemented countermeasures to address the aluminum shortage, but disruptions are still expected to continue for several weeks. This showcases the importance of leveraging technology, such as AI, to navigate unexpected challenges in the supply chain. In the midst of sourcing challenges and ongoing disruptions, it is essential for companies to adopt innovative solutions and strategies. The article highlights how Porsche has previously dealt with sourcing issues by implementing dual sourcing and prioritizing production for certain vehicles. This adaptability and resilience are key in maintaining operational efficiency in the face of supply chain disruptions. The impact of this aluminum shortage on Porsche's production and financial outlook underscores the need for proactive measures and strategic planning in the supply chain industry. By utilizing advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, companies can better anticipate and mitigate risks, ensuring a more agile and resilient supply chain. I encourage professionals in the industry to reflect on these insights and consider how they can leverage technology and innovative strategies to enhance their supply chain operations. Assisting my manufacturing clients to extract the best results possible from their ConfigIt Configuration Lifecycle Management platform.
What does the future hold for manufacturing in 2024? For manufacturers of configurable products, the future looks more complex - not less. Market forces are requiring greater visibility and traceability, for instance. These forces include both new regulations and shifting customer expectations and demands. By looking at recent developments in the industrial sector, companies can put processes and technologies in place that will help them plan for the short and long terms. Here are three predictions from Configit Co-founder and Vice President of Product Management Henrik Hulgaard that manufacturers should pay attention to in 2024. https://ow.ly/rpMB30syQXe

Inquire About Manufacturing Scalability Your business needs today might not be the same tomorrow. Rather than investing large sums of capital in real estate, equipment, and labor to build your factory (which will have a finite capacity), consider partnering with a contract manufacturer that can scale production as your quantity requirements change. Seek an organization with several long-time factory relationships which include redundancy. The length and number of relationships with factories of the same specialty provide you with the ability to increase or decrease production volume with ease and without capital investment.
