Away games just got better 😮💨🚂 Introducing our 2024/25 Newcastle United away kit!

👏🏻 Congratulations to the amazing crews from Grangetown Red Watch who were presented with a Chief Fire Officer’s Commendation today (12/08). The Commendations were awarded for the medical assistance and delivery of CPR on their colleague, CM Alex Sutherland who collapsed as a result of a cardiac arrest at an incident in April 2024. 👨🚒 In the immediate time following Alex’s collapse his fellow crew members identified he was not breathing, and an assistance message was sent immediately to the control room by FF Harforth detailing the circumstances and requesting medical assistance. 👏FF Harforth then rejoined the rest of the crew (FF Bell and Spall) who had begun CPR in conjunction with the AED which is carried on the fire engine. This was also the first time that they had ever performed CPR on a live casualty. ⭐ As the three firefighters worked tirelessly a second crew from Grangetown Red Watch quickly joined to work as a team to continue the CPR on Alex. This consisted of CM Holmes, CM Flynn, FF Temple, and FF Charlton. 👏Thankfully, through the professional, heroic, and prompt actions of Alex’s crew members, he was stabilised and later transported, via ambulance to hospital. ❤️ Alex has since had an internal defibrillator fitted and although not yet back at work is making a good recovery.
