A dirty equipment hold time (DEHT) study evaluates the time between the end of manufacturing and the start of cleaning for equipment. It also evaluates the time between the end of cleaning and the start of using the equipment again. DEHT studies are important because the nature of the soil on equipment can change over time, such as through drying or microbial growth. Here are some things to consider when conducting a DEHT study: Establish a maximum DEHT- This should be based on the longest time the equipment would be dirty before cleaning. Establish a minimum DEHT- This should be based on the shortest time between the end of manufacturing and the start of cleaning. Collaborate between Quality and Operations- Operations want a longer DEHT for scheduling flexibility, while Quality wants to minimize it to prevent micro growth. Demonstrate that DHT doesn't impact cleaning- The FDA requires that you demonstrate that the DEHT doesn't impact your ability to clean the equipment. Perform three consecutive cleaning procedures- To prove the method is validated, you should perform three consecutive cleaning procedures that incorporate the maximum DEHT.

Chemical testing on ships plays a fundamental role in ensuring the quality and safety of water used on board. Regular water analysis is essential to ensure it meets potability and sanitation standards, protecting the health and well-being of crew and passengers. Among the main chemical tests carried out on ships, water analysis is extremely important. The chemical analysis of water on board involves checking parameters such as pH, residual chlorine, turbidity, presence of heavy metals, organic and microbiological compounds. These tests ensure that the water available for consumption, food preparation and hygiene meet the safety and quality requirements established by international standards and maritime regulations. Periodically carrying out chemical tests allows you to identify potential sources of water contamination on board, prevent outbreaks of water-related diseases and ensure that treatment and storage systems are operating properly. Have you budgeted for a £20,000 fine? Well, maybe you should if you are ignoring Dangerous Goods regulations and adequate training. During a routine run, jerricans full of potassium hydroxide leaked when they toppled over. They had not been adequately tightened, nor securely stacked on pallets. It was reported that around 85 litres of potassium hydroxide were lost on the journey. The company was fined under the Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2009 and fined over £20,000 for good measure. Invest in proper training and keep the change.

Chemical spill prevention involves: 1. Storage: Store chemicals properly, following guidelines and using appropriate containers. 2. Labeling: Clearly label all containers with chemical names, hazards, and handling instructions. 3. raining: Provide training for handling chemicals safely, emphasizing proper procedures and protective gear. 4. Ventilation: Ensure good ventilation in storage areas to minimize fumes and vapors. 5. Spill Kits: Have spill response kits available with absorbents, neutralizers, and protective equipment. 6. Inspections: Regularly inspect equipment and storage areas for leaks, corrosion, or other potential issues. 7. Emergency Planning: Develop and communicate emergency response plans for chemical spills. 8. Regulatory Compliance: Comply with local regulations and industry standards for chemical handling and storage. #Qcsafety tips #chemicalspill

🟢 SAFETY MOMENT TODAY🟢 Topic : Safety in Chemical Handling As part of Schedule Waste Management team, whether you have direct contact or not, you will be expose to various hazardous chemicals. It's essential to have some basic knowledge about these chemicals to understand the safety precautions you should take. In facts, this kind of symbol may possibly be found in our daily cleaning items such as like bleech or cleaning agents. Therefore, before using any chemical, pay attention on the information given at the packaging, use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment(PPE), a proper technique while handling it, and for more better understanding may access their Safety Data Sheet(SDS) in case of emergencies. You may not a chemist, but with these precautions, you can avoid injuries or even fatalities.
