I have never stayed at Moxy Hotels....Back in 2012, Marriott International wanted to shake up the select market by introducing a stylish, functional, snazzy product for Millennials. They partnered up with IKEA, their real estate division to have not their furniture but that stacked feel of their stores and debuted the first Moxy hotel in 2014 which was the Moxy Milan Malpensa Airport. Even though its targeted for my Demographic, I hate this brand for a number of reasons. Yes, I am a Millennial, but I am extremely Old School. I love classic luxury of a The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C., not the loud, colorful vibe of W Hotels. If I wanted to stay at a Select brand, my first choice would be Courtyard by Marriott. Moxy is basically an Aloft Hotels with more functionality and less room space. And then the whole retro vibe with those antique telephones, pegs on the wall and this is the cardinal sin in my eyes, NO TABLE AND CHAIR. How can a hotel, however cool it aspires to be, not have a hotel and Chair? Every Millennial has to work I assure you, and they need a table and chair to place their laptop, sit down and work. It defeats the purpose. I suppose this hotel should be retargeted towards Gen Z ( 19-25 age group) and when they age out, the next generation. Families for sure and Boomers would never stay at Moxy for practical purposes. Which is why this ad of Moxy Sydney Airport caught my eye. First off, excellently shot and well articulated, without uttering a single word. One of the better marketing ads of Marriott Hotels/ Marriott Bonvoy. If you look closely, the guy in this ad when he enters the room, sits down in chair and a NICE, LONG TABLE. I was like, this can't be possible. How can a Moxy break its design palette? As it turns out, this hotel maybe is an exception, but the Moxy King sleeper room does have a Table and Chair which is a miracle. I would definitely try out this property for sure. Moxy has over 150 hotels worldwide, amazing that they built so much in a decade and almost 60% of those hotels are in Europe which is its perfect target market. The Moxy Times Square is an anomaly with 5 food and beverage outlets and a massive 612 room inventory. I would personally love to try Moxy Tromso which has spectacular views. Norway has just 3 Marriott hotels in totality and all of them are moxy's, the other two being Moxy Bergen and Moxy Oslo. I really feel in the process of being hip and cool, they shouldn't sacrifice the essentials, in this instance, a sturdy table and comfortable chair, in which case I would be more than happy to try out this brand. I appreciate the price point as well, in Europe its about 79 pounds which is a steal and in NYC, they go anywhere from $150 to $279 which is a great deal for that market. I will definitely try this Moxy next time I am in Sydney and Kudos to the marketing team for putting out a high production quality video that showcases the brand's ethos perfectly without even a word being said.

Shooting Stars The pressure is great for most hotel General Managers and that is because any hotel, big or small, are risky investments and the owners or management company want to feel that their property is in the right hands. Not many onwers will get the GM hiring right the first time from opening. Over the years you might have seen many “shooting stars”, GMs who get appointed one after another only to fizzle and fail in that new property as a GM because they failed along the way to understand how departments operate, not just learn how they operate (there is a difference). They fail to understand how the GM sets the tone and culture of the property. They fail to learn how to motivate, coach and advise employees and managers. Now for those who thinks the job is too much or it takes too long to accomplish the dream becoming a GM, I would advise that you either find another profession or, find a lesser role that would still get you in the role of GM later on, something that will give you time to fine tune your skills before moving up to your ultimate dream. The key to being able to have a long career in this job is to really know how to manage people. And to do this, it takes time. Sometimes even years after you have become a GM, it is still not easy to manage people today......too many generations to deal with 😆

Being a Hotel General Manager isn’t just about running the show within the hotel’s four walls. 👉🏼 It is about stepping outside and joining the bigger stage. 🎩 Whether it is shaking hands at community events, building partnerships with local businesses, or finding a way to be at three networking meetings in one evening [working on cloning technology 😆], the GM is the ultimate multitasker So, when you are hiring a Hotel GM or see someone with GM experience, remember: You are not just getting someone who works within four walls 🧱 You are getting: ▪️ a BRAND AMBASSADOR: Participating in local events and supporting causes fosters a positive image of the hotel and brand. ▪️ a RELATIONSHIP BUILDER: Engaging with local tourism boards, attending industry conferences, and networking with other professionals are essential for GMs. ▪️ and a COMMUNITY CHAMPION: Community involvement can drive more visitors to the area, benefiting the local economy and creating a thriving environment for both the hotel and local businesses. Who needs a desk when the whole city is your office? 🌆 #HospitalityLeadership #HotelGM #CommunityEngagement #BrandAmbassador #Leadership 📍New York, USA

After 18 incredible years with Aimbridge, I’m now looking ahead to new opportunities in 2025. While I have a few ideas, I’m still exploring the right direction for this next chapter in my career life. Reflecting on my time at Aimbridge, I’ve had the privilege of working with talented individuals, too many to mention, who’ve become lifelong friends. I’ve supported and developed hotel teams, corporate colleagues, managers and general managers in navigating the complexities of distribution and digital marketing, driving revenue growth in a competitive marketplace, and benchmarking their hotels performance. And in collaborating with external suppliers and brand partners, I’ve had the opportunity to leverage their products and services to help deliver exceptional results. Over the years, I’ve been part of Aimbridge EMEA’s incredible transformation, from a small management company to an industry leader. As digital marketing evolved, I took a lead within Aimbridge EMEA, becoming an expert in strategies and tactics that enhance hotel visibility and drive incremental revenue growth across direct and indirect channels. So, what’s next? After a well-earned Christmas with family, I’m ready to plan for what 2025 holds. I’m seeking my next role, ideally in hospitality, but I’m also open to opportunities in the broader travel industry, particularly with companies that support revenue growth and customer-centric optimization. In the meantime, I’m available for consultancy projects in distribution and digital marketing. #RevenueManagement #DigitalMarketing #HospitalityLeadership #DistributionStrategy #HotelIndustry #TravelOptimization
