What a brilliant, inspiring, uplifting and positive day it was at the Creative Wales / Cymru Greadigol Accessible Futures Summit in Cardiff yesterday. Many thanks to the organisers and contributors.   Here are a few takeaways:   1.     There are seismic and exciting changes, coming from many different directions, to make television roles more accessible to DDN talent. This summit had a Welsh flavour but the work of the #tvaccessproject is UK Wide. 2.    And because of the brilliant work of Laurence Clark and others, these DDN adjustments shouldn’t cost productions a penny. https://lnkd.in/evN8gFDX 3.    All the major UK broadcasters and platforms are backing the work of the TV Access Project. 4.    I wasn’t privy to any spoilers (of course!) but Dr Who are doing some exciting things in this space next year. Thank you Jessica Gardner for telling us about ‘easy read callsheets’ . https://lnkd.in/etnaSM5w 5.    BBC Commissioner Caroline O'Neill *really* loves her job and brought us great insight into what the BBC is doing in this area 6.    Laurence Clark and Jules Hussey both love a role play but its Jess Mable Jones who can really rock a costume – and give some insightful, provocative and very entertaining training on access coordinators along the way. 7.    Those of us in Bristol (and beyond) will really miss Mel Rodrigues at #grittytalent but Reema Lorford has taken up the reigns with gusto. 8.    Jake Sawyers is hilarious – a brilliant compere and a natural performer 9.    It was a really positive day but the fear remains that the contraction of our industry might sweep some of this good work away. Admittedly, I’m eternally optimistic, but I suspect these hard-won changes are here to stay. 10. The great message of the day is that better access arrangements and a more open culture will not only offer vital opportunities to DDN talent but also offer huge benefits to the crew who do not define as disabled . #tv #tvproduction #diversity #disability #representation

I am truly gutted to have missed this event, I was on the waiting list for tickets but I think the fact there was a waiting list (and just how quickly the tickets went!) Is a real indication of the need for the summit. In an industry falling drastically behind on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion it is so encouraging to hear great minds collaborate on positive change. Here's to many more, paving the way to accessible futures 👏👏
