I completed the WebStrike challenge on CyberDefenders.org, which was simple and helped me practice network traffic analysis.

Ditto + TAK! So excited to finally announce the availability of our Edge Sync Plugin for ATAK. The history behind this gets to the origins of Ditto Federal's team. We won a SBIR in 2019 and executed on it from 2020-2021. Due to the pandemic, this limited access to integrating Ditto into other systems, so the focus ended up on ATAK. At that time there was no formal team - just a passion to bring Ditto's technology to warfighters and other service members. As a result, launching this plugin means so much more. Now Ditto Federal is a rapidly growing team executing on use-cases that span every service and even into allied nations too. As a principle, it is indeed absolutely accurate that we need more IT professionals in the public sector. However, for digitalization to occur and projects to be executed and completed successfully, a clear vision is essential. Our experience in TaxForAll (TFA) over the last six years highlights that digitalization in government requires not just isolated units but a cohesive team and a well-defined plan. Surprisingly, individuals with IT skills/studies/expertise do exist within government departments, but their potential is not being utilized effectively. For example, within The TaxForAll Project Team of the Cyprus Tax Department, 10 out of 18 people are IT-related public servants who, before joining the TaxForAll project team, were involved in duties that were completely unrelated to their capabilities. They were professionals eager to work and contribute meaningfully, aligning their skills with the goals of the TaxForAll project. In the new era of modern administrations, where e-governance and projects are imperative, such as the Cyprus Tax Department’s initiative, Tax For All has cultivated a technologically advanced team capable of overseeing an IT project comprehensively. The knowledge gained is meticulously documented and shared among TFA Team members, ensuring that expertise is preserved. During the implementation of Tax For All, the TFA Project Team adeptly navigated seven key streams: 1) Project Management; 2) Detailing of Requirements; 3) Data Migration and Technical Issues; 4) Test Management; 5) Business Processes and Re-Engineering; 6) Change Management and Communication; 7) Training. As we move towards digitalization, it’s crucial to recognize that effective teams and strategic planning are pivotal for success. As mentioned earlier, while the idea is correct, hiring IT-related individuals without a project plan, a supporting team, and determined management for digitalization and culture may result in them handling only the day-to-day business of a government department or eventually giving up. The above insights come from someone in the profession who started in 2008 in the government, left in 2010, went abroad, and returned in 2017 with the objective to digitally transform the Cyprus Tax Department with Tax For All. We believe that by 2025, when all the functionalities of TaxForAll will be delivered into productive operation, the Tax Department will be fully digitalized. PS: The TaxForAll is the Integrated Tax Administration System of the Cyprus Tax department. It is a frontend and backend COTS solution that is planned to substitute all the IT systems of Cyprus Tax Department internal and external by 2025. Since March 2023, it is up and running with the indirect taxes part (VAT and Vies) and the Tax Registry with all the data from the legacy systems migrated. These points offer food for thought and contribute to the ongoing discussion, as the subject for us is not only an idea, it is something that we deal with everyday.

Done new roon from TryHackMe which called Passive Reconnaissance In this room, we focused on passive reconnaissance. In particular, we covered command-line tools, whois, nslookup, and dig. We also discussed two publicly available services DNSDumpster and Shodan.io. The power of such tools is that you can collect information about your targets without directly connecting to them.
