#Comms Pros: When looking for a new job, obviously all the components below are important. However, if you were FORCED to rank....how would you rank them in order of importance? 1. Experience 2. Obviously, all are important, but there has to be a ranking order I'm sure.

“Entry-level” roles don’t 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 exist. Or at least not in the way we want them to. If you filter jobs by "entry-level," you'll still see roles requiring 3-4 years of experience. That limits your options if you don't meet those requirements, right? 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹! 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 career changer we've worked with landed a role requiring experience they didn’t 𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 have. How to turn a comment into a differentiator:

Most people only apply for jobs they’re qualified for. 🤐 When you’re looking for a new job - really vet the day-to-day role and skills required for the position. If you’re an expert in 100% of the skills and qualifications needed, you won’t be challenged or grow in this role. Instead, look for positions you’re *mostly* qualified for but want to learn the other skills needed. Grow with your role.

I received a personal message on my last post "5 Indications You Are Clearly Underpaid", what if I feel overpaid. And this got me researching my ex-colleagues about the issue at hand. To my amusement, people had similar feelings about this. It's important to note that feeling overpaid or outgrowing a job role is subjective and can vary from person to person based on their individual goals, aspirations, and career trajectories. If you find yourself experiencing any of these indications, it may be time to consider exploring new challenges or opportunities that better align with your skills, experience, and desired level of growth. It is time to level up! Check out these 5 signs that you've outgrown your role and may be ready for a new challenge. Because the why behind hiring isn't to find out who is interested. It's to solve a problem. "I'm interested" or asking "Where can I apply?" puts all of the problem solving (aka work) on the person posting. Your goal especially in a competitive market is for them to see you as the *solution to their problem* as quickly and easily as possible.

Here are a few thoughts on what has worked well for me: If it's a job or position you're looking for... 1. Start by introducing yourself and mentioning the specific role or posting you're interested in. Express your enthusiasm and say why you think you'd be a great fit for the position. Ask if they'd be open to chatting further about the role and company. End by thanking them for their time and consideration. 2. Compliment the company and say why you're interested in them specifically. Mention 1-2 relevant skills or experiences you have that align with the role. Express interest in learning more about the team, culture, etc., and suggest meeting for coffee or a quick phone call. End by thanking them and noting you look forward to staying in touch. 3. Open by indicating you saw the posting on [site] and are excited by the opportunity. Share a brief background on yourself and ask if they might have time for a short informational interview to learn more about the role. Offer dates/times that could work for a phone call and promise not to take up too much of their time. Thank them for considering and say you hope to speak further about the exciting opportunity.
