#Modi is not god and #Indian #democracy is not above criticism. But he has set extremely positive examples for large poor democracies to deliver, as fast as a single-party #ruled China. Downgrading a 140 cr people-strong emerging #economy far below some South #American countries (of 1-5 cr population), known for drug and human trafficking cartels, is not going to serve any purpose for the cause of democracy. In a letter criticizing their governments' uncritical approach to Israel's conduct in the #Gazawar, these officials express concern that their countries could be implicated in #warcrimes. Professor Yossi Mekelberg highlights the broader #context of #Westerndoublestandards regarding human rights #conventions and #internationallaw. The collective expression of exasperation by these civil servants is remarkable in terms of scale, geography, and timing, reflecting a deep sense of urgency and perhaps even despair.
