Two days after #ASTOR cinema is marked as a listed building in Athens, the fight continues to see theatre venues restored or even protected from re-development. We remain curious to see, when Athens' urban real estate development will incorporate cultural uses as part of mixed-use commercial developments, and stop associating just F&B units with the leisure assets in the mix. #Guinea: The Ciné Nomade Festival, now in its second edition, is a significant mobile cultural event in Guinea, aiming to bring cinema to areas traditionally lacking access to movie theaters. Founded by filmmakers Aïssa Diaby and Aboubakar Nabi Kamara, the 2023 edition of the festival, running from December 1st to 12th, features a changed format with three days of events in Conakry followed by a week of mobile cinema across the Guinean maritime region. This year, the festival is putting a special focus on women in cinema, honoring figures like Safi Faye and showcasing promising talents like Ramata-Toulaye Sy, Kalista Sy, and Aissatou Diallo Sagna. It's an international affair, with numerous filmmakers from across Africa and beyond converging in Conakry to celebrate their work and legacy. The festival is organized by the Franco-Guinean association Ciné Nomade Afrique, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, in partnership with the French Institute, SAKOM communication agency, and Canal+ International. It is expected to draw about 5,000 cultural enthusiasts. The inaugural 10-day edition of the festival in 2022 was a remarkable success, screening films in four Guinean regions, and attracting over 2500 spectators nationwide.
