Although it enters these effluents extremely easily from various sources, removing it from these effluents is a daunting task. Gleying or Gleyzation occurs when iron compounds are reduced by microorganisms in waterlogged, anaerobic conditions. The iron compounds are either removed from the soil completely or segregated out as mottles. Mottles appear as rust-colored splotches or streaks.  The characteristic bluish- or greenish-gray color is the result of the reduction of iron in soils that have been saturated for significant time periods. Termites thrive in environments with high moisture content. Specifically, they prefer environments with water sources readily available, such as damp soil, leaky pipes, standing water, or areas with poor drainage. Subterranean termites, for example, build their nests underground where moisture levels are higher and then forage above ground for cellulose-based food sources. Therefore, any conditions that promote moisture retention can create an ideal environment for termites to thrive. Focus on soil structure & water movement 💧⛳ 📚 Soil flocculation refers to a process during which soil particles are dispersed in a solution and adhere to each other, forming separate clusters (aggregates). 🧱 Proper soil flocculation is essential for turfgrass maintenance, as water moves through large pores between aggregates of soil particles. 🌱 Pores are the space for the growth of plant roots and the proliferation of microorganisms. 💨 Dispersed clays can fill in the soil pores space and impede water movement and soil drainage, limiting oxygen availability and favoring the development of anaerobic bacteria. 💧 The improvement of water percolation through the soil profile is especially important during the winter season. The application of a proper formula of soil conditioner, such as a natural-based formula of OxyTurf, can contribute to: ✔️ improved dissemination of soil particles in compacted soils, ✔️ increased oxygen availability and ✔️ effective control of black layer and thatch formation. 🔎 OxyTurf is also a perfect tool to combat anaerobic soil conditions, maintain the balance in the soil microbiome and provide a source of organic matter originating from natural plant extracts. #soil #turfgrass #biostimulants

It's #WaterQualityMonth, and here at the Edwards Aquifer Authority, we're committed to researching and monitoring water quality by regularly sampling streams, wells, and springs across the region. Our sampling program provides crucial data on the quality of water entering the aquifer from surface streams, groundwater moving through it, and the composite water emerging at springs. Laboratory analyses for bacteria, nutrients, dissolved metals, VOCs, SVOCs, pesticides, herbicides, and PCB compounds consistently show that high-quality water is prevalent throughout the Edwards Aquifer system. Most water sampled from streams, wells, and springs had no detectable contaminants, and dissolved metals were generally low and attributed to natural sources. Overall, the Edwards Aquifer produces some of the highest quality groundwater in Texas. The EAA remains dedicated to monitoring water quality in the Contributing, Recharge, and Artesian zones to manage, enhance, and protect the Edwards Aquifer.
