As members of the quantum consortium QED-C, we are proud to collaborate with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and colleagues on exploring quantum benchmarking. As part of this effort, we recently co-authored a new paper on application-oriented performance benchmarks. Benchmarking is a critical element in the fast-changing landscape of quantum computing – quality benchmarking allows potential users and investors to compare different quantum computing architectures, algorithms, and approaches intelligently and efficiently. In particular, users need to gauge the performance of real-world applications.     Our recent paper extends a suite of Application-Oriented Benchmarks for quantum computing, covering a range of sizes and inputs, capturing key performance metrics related to the quality of results, total time of execution, and resources consumed. This paper includes the results of running these extended benchmarks with a variety of architectures and software tools, giving a clear measure of the field at present.    Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dp_RfUSh

The Economist's "Commercialising Quantum" conference highlighted the transformative potential of #quantumcomputing. Many of the discussions at the event highlighted the power and excitement that we're seeing in the overall #quantum arena. I had the privilege of joining a panel with Lara Jehi, MD, MHCDS from the Cleveland Clinic, Dorit Aharonov from Qedma, Mile Corrigan from Noblis, Imed Othmani, PhD, C.M.C from IBM, and Tom Standage from The Economist to discuss the future of quantum computing. One of the emerging challenges is that we're liable to see a huge uptick in the demand for Quantum Information Scientists (QIS), a field that is very undersupplied at the moment. The closer we come to working technology, the more we need QIS specialists. Like data science, QIS is not something that one learns overnight, but is a journey of many months of dedicated effort. Just think: we're seeing new career paths in quantum computing. How exciting! Where do you go from here? 1. Get Started. Quantum computers that can deliver useful business value are closer than ever - potentially three years away if some commercial roadmaps hold. While initial use cases may be limited, exponential technologies tend to underwhelm in the short term and overwhelm in the medium term. Don't get caught flatfooted! 2. Get Help. Whether it's education, strategy, use case identification, proofs of concept, or creating a team, there are a wealth of resources and organizations who can help. At Deloitte, we got started by combining passionate learners with a few outside experts to build our internal capabilities. 3. Look within. For organizations, you've likely already got individuals in your organization who are exploring quantum computing. Channel their passion and curiosity! For individuals, there are a myriad of courses and resources available to get started and then dive deep into quantum. Thank you to The Economist for hosting such an enlivening event!
