President Trump revokes AI risk regulation in day one executive order The first day of Donald Trump’s presidency was marked by over 200 executive orders, including one regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI). https://lnkd.in/gFyXiQBw Executive Order 14110, titled "Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence," [https://lnkd.in/gNdAXFR2] was signed by President Biden in October 2023. Its goal: to establish a national framework for governing AI in the United States. The directive mandated developers of AI systems, posing risks to national security, economic stability, or public health and safety, to conduct rigorous safety tests and share the results with the federal government before public deployment. Revocation of this executive order is the first strong indication of the president's intent to invoke the Republican party's campaign promises of “ AI development rooted in free speech and human flourishing" and has already prompted major investments in US AI projects and infrastructure - #Stargate

It's not exactly a shock, but the news today that the incoming Trump administration has revoked the 2023 Biden Executive Order on AI does puncture what was at least a broad trans-Atlantic consensus on targeted but proportionate principles of safe and secure AI use, and related collaboration seeking common international standards for AI systems. It remains to be seen what may follow in the wake of the revocation, but State-level initiatives like the recently-published Texas Responsible AI Governance Act (TRAIGA) appear to be the most likely concrete sources of US-based AI regulation for the foreseeable future. We'll be tracking these developments closely to see if States continue to fill the void in Federal-level legislation. #AI #Shoosmiths

Biden’s sweeping AI executive order rescinded. President Trump has repealed the Biden administration’s Executive Order 14110 (Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of AI), halting safety and transparency requirements for AI developers and scrapping plans for the U.S. AI Safety Institute. Instead, Trump is prioritizing: > U.S. competitiveness in the global AI race. > National security implications of AI leadership. > Supporting domestic energy for AI infrastructure. U.S. AI policy direction remains uncertain as global rivals like the EU push forward with comprehensive frameworks. Will states like California and Colorado lead with their own AI regulations? President Trump revoking President Biden's executive order on #AI on his first day in office sends a clear signal about #AIregulation in the U.S. (federally, at least). Canada's AIDA is also done and a new government will have to decide what to do about regulating AI at a time when OpenAI is claiming to have developed AGI. What does this mean for businesses? Focus on best practices, standards and advancing a narrative of trust in data. Regulation is not needed to know some of the fundamental safeguards for responsible AI.

I think this was no. 5 in my AI Top 5 for 2025.......is this the reward for big US tech supporting President Trump? On January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order rescinding the 2023 AI Executive Order established by former President Joe Biden. Biden's order had mandated companies to report the development of powerful AI models affecting national security, economy, or public health, and directed agencies to develop standards to test AI systems, including provisions to limit bias and discrimination. The revocation of these AI protections signifies a shift towards a deregulatory approach, potentially fostering rapid innovation by reducing compliance burdens on tech companies. However, this move raises concerns about the adequacy of safety and privacy protections, as the absence of federal oversight may lead to unchecked AI development, increasing risks of misuse, bias, and threats to civil liberties. Additionally, the lack of standardised regulations could result in a fragmented landscape, with individual states enacting their own AI policies, leading to inconsistencies and challenges for nationwide implementation. Will this removal of certain guardrails promote the freedom that AI needs to develop and evolve or will it simply allow big tech companies to play free and loose wrt to transparency and governance? Some individual states are pushing on with their own AI governance regulations. https://lnkd.in/eU6eepbJ

🚨 Trump Revokes Biden's Executive AI Order --- Biden's Executive Order required developers of certain high-risk #AI systems to share the results of their safety tests with the U.S. government, in line with the Defense Production Act. AI agencies were to set standards for testing and address related risks. Trump revoked the order on the first day of his being in office, January 20, 2025 - the Republican party position being that Biden's order hinders #AI #innovation. This is a big step, and makes the legislative field of AI in the US even more fragmented, as different #legislations flourish in different states. It is not yet clear how to reconcile and standardize AI compliance across the USA. Read more: https://lnkd.in/d4nG9dgK #privacy #AI #compliance #datasecurity

#Trump has just scrapped Biden's #AIregulation - and made it even easier to develop AI in the US as opposed to Europe. The tragic thing is: In the US, where a lot of cutting-edge #AI technology is being developed, there is now hardly any regulation. In Europe, where hardly any cutting edge AI tech is being developed, the #EUAIAct brings a lot of regulation for developers. What's your take on that?
