Understanding and applying the ADDIE instructional model can elevate your course design to new heights. This framework ensures a structured and systematic approach to course creation. Here’s a quick breakdown of the ADDIE model: 1️⃣ Analysis: Identify the learning needs, goals, and objectives. Who are your learners, and what do they need to achieve? 2️⃣ Design: Plan the course structure, content, and assessments. Create a blueprint that outlines the flow of your course. 3️⃣ Development: Create and assemble the course materials. This is where your content, activities, and multimedia come to life. 4️⃣ Implementation: Deliver the course to your learners. Ensure everything is in place for a smooth rollout, including training for any facilitators or moderators who might be supporting your course. 5️⃣ Evaluation: Assess the effectiveness of the course. Collect feedback and data to determine what worked well and what needs improvement. Don't skip this step, and don't ignore feedback! By following the ADDIE model, you can create courses that are well-structured, engaging, and effective. It’s the foundation of instructional design that every course creator should master. ❓How have you applied the ADDIE model in your course creation process? Share your experiences and tips below! ⬇️ #InstructionalDesign #OnlineLearning #EdTech #ADDIEModel #CourseCreation #CourseCreator

Instructors want their students to understand the expectations for learning in their courses. However, ensuring this is happening without careful course planning can be challenging. In this interactive online workshop, we will discuss backward design (Wiggins and McTighe, 2005) for learning, an approach to instructional planning that starts with identifying desired results– what students are expected to learn or be able to do–and then proceeds “backward” to determine acceptable evidence of learning (assessments) and to develop instructional materials and learning activities that promote the desired results. Using Backward Design as a Strategic Approach to Course Development 📅 Thursday, April 25, 2024 ⏰ 12:00 - 1:00 PM, CST 📍 Online on Zoom #UICinstructors, after participating in this workshop, you will be able to: ✳ Explain the advantages of integrating backward design into course design, including its impact on student learning outcomes ✳ Describe the three steps of the backward design framework ✳ Identify tools and methods needed to apply backward design to your courses effectively Learn more & register: https://lnkd.in/g7cVxyZq

SMEs aren’t always right for course design. But isn’t their expertise critical? When to sideline SMEs in training development. Involving Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in course design is common, yet there are times when their deep expertise might not serve the end goal of your training programs. Here’s why you might reconsider their involvement: Complexity Overload: → SMEs can unintentionally introduce complexity that overwhelms learners, especially those new to the subject. → Their involvement should be balanced to ensure content remains learner-friendly. Focus Drift: → While SMEs bring depth, they might stray from the core learning objectives, focusing on niche knowledge that dilutes the course's focus. → Their input should be strategically used to maintain alignment with the course goals. Design vs. Content: → Course design should prioritize how content is delivered for optimal learning. → SMEs might focus more on what is taught than how it’s taught. → Leverage instructional designers to shape the learner experience, using SMEs for content validation rather than course structure. Understanding the right level and timing of SME involvement can simplify your course development and enhance learning outcomes, ensuring that courses are both accurate and effectively designed. #TrainingDevelopment #CourseDesign #SMEsInEducation #InstructionalDesign #LearningAndDevelopment #EffectiveTraining #ElearningTips

Boost Learner Experience with Effective Course Navigation Good navigation is crucial in course design. Here's why: 1. Clarity: Simple, consistent navigation helps learners focus on content, not on finding their way. 2. Flow: Logical progression aids understanding and retention. 3. Accessibility: Inclusive navigation options cater to diverse needs. 4. Engagement: Clear calls to action and interactive elements enhance participation. 5. Feedback: Easy access to assessments and feedback supports continuous improvement. Prioritizing navigation transforms the learning journey into a seamless and engaging experience. #InstructionalDesign #LearnerExperience #eLearning #CourseDesign

It helps identify what aspects of the course were successful and which areas need improvement. By understanding learners' needs, preferences, and expectations, course designers can refine their materials to better meet these requirements in future courses. 👉I've developed a prototype in Storyline that collects feedback from learners and saves it in a Google Sheets. 🌐𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸: https://lnkd.in/d3gCRxjX 📄𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘁: https://lnkd.in/dkSkvqQc #instructionaldesign #elearningdevelopment #elearnign #instructionaldesigner #elearningdeveloper #storyline #articulatestoryline #elearningdesign #elearningfeedback #storyline360

Putting the Person Before the Process in Instructional Design As someone who's been in the instructional design field for 19 years, I've seen how easy it is to get caught up in the process and forget about the person on the other side of that virtual call or email. When working with subject matter experts (SMEs) new to designing online courses, it's important to get to know them first. Start with an informal chat before diving into the project. Ask about where they live, what they're passionate about academically, and what excites them. It’s amazing how this simple step can build a strong foundation for working together. Find out their strengths and where they feel less confident (and let's steer clear of calling this a weakness—everyone has areas for growth!). By understanding their perspective, we can better support them and create a more effective learning experience for their students. Instructional design isn’t just about creating courses—it’s about helping SMEs share their knowledge in the best way possible. So, let’s prioritize empathy and connection, putting the person before the process. - Michelle #InstructionalDesign #OnlineLearning #WisdomWednesday #4GConsultingGroup (c) Michelle A. Farley
