The ISD in Celina, TX, is preparing for the future — on a foundation secured by VoidForm. In just one year, from 2022 to 2023, the population of this formerly sleepy Texas town has grown by a staggering 26.6 percent. This has meant Celina's ISD has had to deploy a rapid expansion plan to ensure enough schools to accommodate its predicted 10,000+ student population by 2028 — 130 percent more students than they have today. VoidForm has partnered with Miller Sierra Contractors, Inc. to install nearly 60,000 sq ft of void systems below the slab of one of Celina's brand new Elementary Schools (No. 5), which is set to open in the fall of 2025. With VoidForm now installed under the slab, the community has mitigated the risk of structural damage for the school's functional lifespan. #Construction #engineering #structuralengineering

Huge fire at a school ─ thankfully, no reported casualties (other than the fabric!) ... 👉 Mossbourne Community Academy is one of the largest timber frame buildings in the UK. The primary structure is a Glulam (Glued Laminated Timber) frame consisting of over 1,000 cubic metres (35,000 cubic feet) of renewable European whitewood formed into paired columns and beams 👉 The timber was sourced, laminated and machined in Holland, arriving on site ready to be bolted together and erected. All the connections are made using steel plates and bolts. Internally, the bolts are deeply recessed into the timber to avoid children snagging themselves, while externally the bolts are exposed, avoiding potential weak spots where water may penetrate the timber 👉 The primary structure is comprised of two rows of parallel ‘H’ frames that are spanned by secondary beams. This structure frames a series of classrooms, with the secondary beams projecting past the frame to carry a series of external walkways. The use of timber has enabled continuous structural members to extend from interior to exterior, without the need for a thermal break 👉 The timber is untreated internally and has only minimal applied protection externally. In order to avoid a costly maintenance regime the frame has been detailed in such a way that it will protect itself from of the damaging effects of water. Each beam and column, where external, is covered with a capping of Iroko hardwood. Good to see that this scheme has now secured planning permission. Anderson Acoustics were commissioned by Oundle School in 2022 to undertake an environmental noise survey and then in 2024 a noise impact assessment including advice on noise mitigation measures required to comply with the local planning requirements. We assessed the impact from existing environmental noise levels on the building itself, and set out recommended limits to externally mounted plant items so that a detailed noise assessment of external plant can be undertaken once the selections are made. The results of the noise levels measured on site, were used to calibrate an environmental 3D model of the site to predict façade noise levels at the proposed building elevations. Confronting shrinking enrollment and a projected $25 million budget shortfall, the Judson Independent School District is considering a plan that could result in Bexar County’s 26th school closure since 2023.⁠ ⁠ Trustees are slated to vote next month on a series of proposals that include closing Coronado Village Elementary School and redrawing attendance lines to increase the efficiency of district facilities.⁠ ⁠ It’s a familiar discussion for local school officials and families. Four other San Antonio school districts have consolidated campuses in the last two years to cope with fewer students and reduced funding.⁠ ⁠ Unlike those school systems, however, Judson is discussing shuttering a school while construction crews work to erect two new campuses.⁠ https://bit.ly/4fXDNgr

We're beginning to round up our progress so far working with many councils across England funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, all helping to build pride in place in local communities, and boost skills & employment for local young people. Today we're celebrating our work with Redditch Borough Council. Across 3 projects, we’ve supported 59 young people, helping them gain 56 City & Guilds accreditations in Carpentry & Joinery, Painting & Decorating, and Health & Safety. Many have since progressed into jobs, further training, or education - and a whopping 98% feel more confident about their future. ⚒️ With support from Dulux , Toolstation, Travis Perkins, and other local partners, we've transformed spaces at Reach CIC, Woodrow Community Centre, and The Old Needle Works - creating better facilities for the community while equipping young people with valuable trade skills. 👉 Welcoming young people who are NEET or at risk of disengagement from a wide variety of local youth referral partners - Careers Worcestershire, NHS Early Intervention Herefordshire, Heart of Worcestershire College, Young Solutions, Reach CIC, and Seetec Plus Redditch.
