We have now recycled more than 20,000,000 blister packs right here in Australia. When we started this journey we couldn't imagine how many Australians would rally to make this a reality. Many individuals and groups make this possible and we can't name them all but we would like to give a special thanks to: 👉🏻Pharmacies that make recycling a possibility National Pharmacies Chemist Warehouse Blooms The Chemist Greenleaf Pharmacy Mortlake Pharmacy Inglewood Amcal Chemist and News and many more, from big to small, urban or rural, who make up the 360+ drop-off points. 👉🏻Some of our incredible retail partners: Tracey Bailey from Biome Eco Stores Wholefoods Unwrapped Collective Jeannie Richardson from Wasteless Pantry 👉🏻Passionate Community Groups who bring awareness to our program: Span Community House Rotary Club of the Geelong region Chris Beks and the volunteers at the Rotary Club of Warrnambool City Council Daybreak 👉🏻Local Government and their forward-thinking teams who understand how critical this is for their residents: City of Adelaide Blue Mountains City Council Cowra Council Hornsby Shire Council Eurobodalla Shire Council City of Whittlesea Surf Coast Shire Council Huon Valley Council City of Fremantle City of Burnside City of Sydney Randwick City Council 👉🏻Hospitals and healthcare that support their staff and patients in recycling efforts including: King Edward Memorial Hospital The Royal Women's Hospital’s Hospital Mercy and Memorial Hospitals Victoria Pty Ltd Western NSW Local Health District South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) Local Health District We would also like to share some of our biggest takeaways on our journey so far so others can build incredible programs like ours. 👉🏻Community Engagement: At the heart of our blister pack recycling program milestone lies the unwavering support and dedication of the Australian community. From individuals to organisations, the collective effort showcased a genuine commitment to environmental sustainability. Through community engagement initiatives, we sparked enthusiasm and awareness, inspiring countless Australians to participate in the recycling process. 👉🏻Collaborative Efforts: One of the most significant lessons learned on this journey is the power of collaboration. We joined forces with various stakeholders, including recycling facilities, government agencies, manufacturers, and environmental groups. By fostering collaboration across sectors, we leveraged diverse expertise, resources, and networks to overcome challenges and drive meaningful progress towards achieving our recycling goals. 👉🏻Innovative Solutions: Innovation has been instrumental in propelling our blister pack recycling program forward. From developing specialised recycling technologies to implementing creative collection and sorting methods, we continuously seek innovative solutions to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our recycling initiatives.

‘Project Boomerang funding sets Salvos Stores on course for a circular economy’❤️♻️ The Queensland Government is supporting Circular Economy infrastructure by funding Salvos Stores and The Salvation Army to establish a textile recycling plant in Carole Park, QLD. The plant will sort textiles, remove buttons and zippers, and customise end products for recycling. The plant will be Australia’s first automated textiles sorting and decontamination solution, replicating a plant which is currently in operation in Amsterdam. This initiative aims to reduce textile waste in landfills, promote a circular economy, and raise awareness about clothing waste's environmental impact. Supported by QUT’s feasibility research, the project involves collaborations with Charitable Recycling Australia and SE Queensland Local Governments, and aims to support sustainable practices in the fashion industry. Companies such as Kmart Group, Samsara Eco and Full Circle Fibres are also supportive as they look to develop local supply chains and markets for recycled textiles. Recycler of segregated rigid plastic waste. 100% of accepted plastic is processed by us for future plastic manufacturing
This is recycling perfection. If you are in the industry, then please comment or like, so that Aylesbury Wombles get the appreciation, celebration and recognition that they deserve. #recycling #sustainability #wastemanagement Aylesbury Wombles are a registered charity that litter pick across Aylesbury, set up in 2019. Their strapline is “It’s not our rubbish … but it is our town”. Yesterday was the towns soapbox derby, run by Aylesbury Town Council and the Wombles set up this most fantastic array of bins: · Dry Mixed Recycling – clearly labelled for paper, plastic, cardboard and glass · Food Waste · Paper coffee cups, with a side bin for lids · Can – kept separate because they keep and sell these to fund equipment. So far they have collected over 5 tonnes of cans to trade. · Soft Plastics – which is really rare to see · General Waste They even had volunteers by the bins all day to ensure that people knew what to put where, and above and beyond that, unbelievably – at the end of the day they were going through the other permanent bins in the park, and were taking out the valuable recycling items that others had just disposed of. This proves that recycling can work and it is the dedication of people, combined with the right infrastructure (mainly provided by Grundon Waste Management Ltd in this case), that can make it work brilliantly. My thanks go out to everyone at Aylesbury Wombles – they are a fantastic group of people and I am in awe of them. #volunteer #recyclingworks #recyclingmatters

Solid Waste Management, Urban Logistics / I design strategies for complex buildings and cities / Coach & mentor Associate Consultant
💰 Are incentives the most effective way to prompt adequate recycling practices....? The town of #Brecon in Wales has recently implemented and trialled a Digital Deposit Return Scheme (DDRS). In simple terms, a DDRS is a 'digital version' of a traditional deposit return scheme widely used in many countries such as #germany and #malta. There were some news in the 'waste world media' that announced that the trial had been a success. 💡 Instead of relying on actual infrastructure such as reverse vending machines to deposit beverage containers and collect the container deposits previously paid, in a DDRS users can simply claim their deposited fees via an app on their smartphone, from the convenience of their home. One advantage is that it does not require a separate waste collection system for the containers, and can rely on already-established municipal collection schemes (kerbside, communal bins etc.) In a way, it is similar to a 'recycling incentive scheme' that rewards users for disposing of recyclables correctly. ➡ This trial serves as a testament that perhaps positive incentives might be a way forward to effectively boost this behavioural change that is needed sometimes...? Moving Stories to Connect, Inspire action, Drive Change | Visual Storytelling | Film | Images | Advertising
Imagine starting every day knowing you're stepping into a world where every action leads to sustainable change. That's where I find myself today, thanks to a recent collaboration with Smartwool, a collaboration born from our shared commitment to a greener planet. At Storo, we still feel pretty much in startup mode, continuing to explore new partnerships and refining the clients we want to work with. So far, we have worked with some amazing brands, and it seems the small fish as well as the big fish are making more meaningful and purposeful steps in a brighter direction. Still, there's lots to do. Next on the agenda is launching our website (!!), but it’s really exciting to see what’s next for us. Back to Smartwool. I personally own a pair of their socks, and I must say they are simply amazing. They are made of 100% #Merino wool, sustainably produced, and perfect for both winter and summer. Plus, they don’t smell! Although they are pricier than others, they are incredibly durable and long-lasting. As part of my latest collaboration with Smartwool, I worked on a film to launch a new initiative and line of products. Here’s more information on the Second Cut™ program: https://lnkd.in/e9ZUrBym. Launching this April in the UK, Smartwool’s take-back program breathes new life into old socks. Drop off your worn-out pairs at any of the 15 Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports stores in the UK and join this new initiative in transforming discarded textiles into new, high-quality products. This initiative helps keep materials out of landfills by recycling them into new products. Smartwool is also introducing their Second Cut™ Hike socks in EMEA this SS24. These socks are made from a 50-50 blend of sock waste and responsibly sourced Merino wool. Here’s why the Second Cut™ program stands out: 🐑 Environmental Impact: Helps reduce waste by recycling old socks into new products, keeping materials out of landfills. 🐑 Sustainable Production: Uses responsibly sourced Merino wool, promoting sustainable practices in the textile industry. 🐑 Quality Products: Creates high-quality, durable socks from recycled materials, ensuring long-lasting wear. 🐑 Community Involvement: Encourages community participation in sustainability efforts by offering convenient drop-off locations. 🐑 Innovative Solutions: Demonstrates a commitment to innovative solutions for reducing environmental impact. Here's some of the amazing people that have supported this great project: Canoe Mateo Bettinger Lewis Smart Chiara Casnati Rachel Hamilton Bryony Flint David Taylor Alessia Pagani #alicekeegan Gwilym Pugh Sara Bonotto #smartwool #icebreaker Our path is set towards sustainability and innovation, and we invite you to walk this journey with us. If our vision resonates with you, join us in paving the way to a sustainable future. Wishing everyone a wonderful day, Riccardo
We're thrilled to share that Smartwool is launching their take back program in the UK, giving old socks a second life! Throughout April, drop off your old, unwanted socks at all the Ellis Brigham stores and help keep materials out of landfills by recycling them into new products. Smartwool is launching their Second Cut™ Hike socks in EMEA this SS24. The socks are made from a 50-50 blend of sock waste and responsibly sourced Merino wool. Let's join the movement and give old socks a new purpose!

So more than 250m vapes will be thrown away before the forthcoming ban on single-use vapes, due to be implemented in 2025. My 6 year old saw the headline photo in the story and said “oooh, pretty - I like the sparkly one!”. If ever there was more evidence needed that they are designed to appeal to children…so to say this ban is needed is a given. Is there an opportunity though to capture this lost material? Instinctively, if we are aware of the harm vapes can do to the environment and within the waste management system, it would seem like a there’s a possibility to incentive their collection and capture the lithium contained within! #vapes #plasticwwaste #circulareconomy #recycling #sorting #wastecollection

#PlasticWaste is everybody’s business, including the retailers and bottle depots who make it part of their businesses by receiving back drink containers for recycling! 🛒 Many deposit return schemes around the world have a “return-to-retail” model – where retailers who sell beverages also take back empty containers for recycling. Retailers are at the heart of drink container recycling: in selling drinks and collecting the containers, they play the most visible and vital role in Clean Loop Recycling and deposit return. 💚 Together with its retail and depot customers, TOMRA collects over 46 billion drink containers every year for reuse and recycling in over 60 markets. Businesses today are seeing growing demand from their customers to take a role in managing our planet’s resources. https://lnkd.in/dbWERigC Just check out these words from our retail and depot customers on the part they play! 💬 #PlasticPollution #CustomerStories
