More positive data with opioid related overdose deaths in Alberta. Another month reported by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (this is an actual physician in Alberta) shows a small but meaningful reduction and continued reductions month over month for more than a year! We are also seeing reductions throughout North America. We must remember in the US access to life saving harm reduction and treatment has many barriers and are severely lacking. The rates are higher throughout many states than BC, AB, or ON. They are quite behind but as they increase services, rates are lowering. The basics of naloxone and suboxone/methadone are a must! https://lnkd.in/gc6ib-mv We see BC shifting to increase access to treatment. Premier Eby is in a heated election, but both leading parties have shifted away from experimental treatments and focused on evidence based treatment. https://lnkd.in/gniNCMBf This is all good news. While some political activists argue over the lives and recovery of our most vulnerable, we must stay focused on helping those who need it most. Recovery requires medical stabilization and longer term treatment for many. Access to housing and supportive housing is a must and we need to see movement here. Communities to support and celebrate recovery is how we finally recover as a society. Some will chose politics over people, and media will give them their voices, although divisive and not helpful. Experts will focus on evidence-based approaches and informed polices. There is still much to do, but we must celebrate even the smallest wins. Every life counts. Together we can change everything! https://lnkd.in/gTVgBm-A

Where you live matters... 40 percent of counties in the U.S. do not have a single waivered provider. Even more concerning, waivered providers were not necessarily found in the areas where access to medication assisted therapy is most critical. Among the approximately 1,100 counties identified as having the greatest need for buprenorphine services, 56 percent likely had inadequate capacity to treat patients. At Pelago we are democratizing #access to high quality substance use treatment. We provide access to a full service digital clinic for the treatment and management of tobacco, alcohol and opioid use disorders and have coverage in all 50 states. The size, complexity, and therefore pace of our government is not keeping up with the evolving dynamics of the opioid crisis. From speaking with many government agencies and policy makers, I know it isn't for lack of positive intent. Collectively, we need to do more, to clear the path for innovative and effective solutions like Ophelia to expand access and save lives. If you are in a position to influence policy and looking to make a difference in the opioid epidemic, I'd love to talk to you.
Government inertia is stalling the fight against the opioid crisis, with 64% of people believing state efforts are insufficient. We need expanded treatment services, better workforce investment, and increased access to buprenorphine. Ophelia is dedicated to addressing these gaps and providing hope through evidence-based treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD). Together, we can make a difference. #OpioidCrisis #StateLeadership #OUD #OpheliaHealth https://lnkd.in/eswXf_YP

The opioid crisis is a pressing concern that demands our attention and action. Originating in the late 1990s in the United States, the surge in opioid prescriptions for pain relief has resulted in devastating consequences. Shockingly, over 80,000 people lost their lives to opioid overdoses in the US alone in 2021, underscoring the severity of this crisis. The development of the epidemic reveals a harrowing progression. Initially, opioids were overprescribed, leading to addiction and soaring mortality rates. Efforts to curb opioid overuse inadvertently drove addicts to seek out heroin as an alternative. Subsequently, the emergence of synthetic opioids like Fentanyl has exacerbated the crisis, contributing to a significant increase in overdoses and deaths. Today, Israel faces similar challenges with opioid consumption, with a marked increase observed between 2013 and 2020. Factors such as the discontinuation of less addictive drugs and the use of stronger opioids have fueled this trend, raising concerns for public health, particularly among vulnerable populations. Addressing the opioid crisis requires holistic solutions that encompass both medical and social factors. We must prioritize preventive measures and enhance access to healthcare services to stem the tide of addiction and save lives. Together, let's work towards a future free from the grip of opioid addiction. #OpioidCrisis #PublicHealth #MedicalResearch
