America isn’t racist, except for all the racism. Tim Scott: proving once again that the GOP's strategy is denial and deflection.

We are all Americans 🇺🇸 In times of crisis, it is crucial to remember the shared values that bind us together as a nation. The attempted assassination of a former president is a stark reminder of the depths to which our political divisions can drive us. Violence against any political figure is an attack on the very foundation of our democracy. Regardless of our political affiliations, we must stand united in condemning such acts. Our strength as a nation lies in our ability to engage in vigorous debate while respecting the principles of democracy and the rule of law. When we allow political differences to devolve into violence and hatred, we lose sight of the common good. We must strive to foster an environment where dialogue and cooperation prevail over discord and division. This is not a time for partisan bickering but for reaffirming our commitment to the democratic ideals that have guided us for over two centuries. Let us not forget that, at the heart of our democracy, is the belief that all Americans have the right to express their views peacefully and respectfully. It is in this spirit of patriotism and unity that we must navigate through these challenging times, working together to heal and strengthen our nation.

It is an interesting read. But I must note a statement I disagree with: “All of this suggests that personal accountability for Trump is unlikely to erase the tolerance for antidemocratic actions that has spread in the GOP since his emergence.” Antidemocratic actions—aka the dismantling of US democracy—has been at the heart of a well-funded, well-organized ultra-conservative, white supremacist, ChristoFascist movement that has been building for the past 50+ years. That movement paved the way for a trump. To credit trump, “his emergence”, for the tolerance of antidemocratic actions is to disregard and fail to confront a virulent movement that is working hard and fast to overthrew US democracy. Pay little to “no attention to the man behind the curtain”—pay attention to the movement behind that man.

Interesting read! “Sean Wilentz, a Princeton historian who specializes in American politics, told me that U.S. history has no exact precedent for a party embracing a leader so openly hostile to the core pillars of democracy. Presidents have often been accused of violating the Constitution through their policy actions, he said, but there is not another example of a president moving as systematically to“manipulate the apparatus of government or elections in order to subvert the will of the people.” The closest parallel to Trump’s actions, Wilentz said, may be the strategies of the slaveholding South in the decades before the Civil War. Those included violent attacks on abolitionists, suppression of antislavery publications, and the promulgation of extreme legal theories such as the denial of basic rights to Black people in the Supreme Court’s 1857 Dred Scott decision, all of which were designed to protect slavery against the emerging national majority dubious of it. That decades-long “antidemocratic thrust” from the South, Wilentz noted, “finally culminated in the greatest violation of the American Constitution in our history, which was secession.”

QUESTION OF THE YEAR: HOW MANY INSURRECTIONIST FLAGS ARE TOO MANY FOR A SCOTUS JUSTICE TO FLY? Maybe the answer depends on how many wives (or husbands or significant others) a Justice has and can blame. Maybe the answer depends on how in charge the Chief Justice is. Or maybe it depends on what bribes have been offered to overlook the transgression. Or maybe the answer lies elsewhere. But one thing is for certain: Under Chief Justice John Roberts and the MAGA-majority SCOTUS, at least one truthful answer is "however many it takes to overthrow American democracy by destroying America's belief in the rule of law and equality of justice for all." In this endeavor, the six conservative Justices appear to be united. https://lnkd.in/eZzG-3Vn

It continues to be the tactic of the left to deflect criticisms and charge critics with egregious violations of basic human dignity in the way of sexism, racism, homophobia, and the like. But the deflections, obfuscations, and slanders are all the more telling. Leftists (read Democrats) are unable to defend their leaders on the basis of policy successes or even the character of their politicians, as each has a long list of failures and evidence of corruption or, at a minimum, duplicity. Nor can they defend their platforms on intellectual grounds because these, too, are often fallacious, incoherent, or empirically false. So, in the months ahead, we will be inundated with accusations of various -isms in defence of VP Harris, who truly has nothing of value to present the people of the United States. Her record will be sidestepped, pandering and platitudes will abound, and buzzwords will be the language of choice. And all of this is to simply say that the regressive left in America is an ignorant movement powered by the lowest wattage brains this country has to offer, and it will seek to capitalize on this fact from now until election day.

**WARNING - INCONVENIENT TRUTH** Many people are dissatisfied with the current state of American politics. They want some 'new blood' and younger leaders. That could be good - or not. I have no real problem with the idea, with certain conditions. I don't believe that age should disqualify anyone. I know some very bright and capable old people, and some young people I wouldn't trust to shovel my driveway. Here are some facts for your consideration: 1) Joe Biden is 80. 2) Nancy Pelosi is 83. 3) Joe Manchin is 76. 4) Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (a Democrat in independent clothing) is 69. 5) Chuck Schumer is 73. 6) Maxine Waters is 85. 7) Donald Trump is 77. 8) Mitch McConnell is 81. 9) Chuck Grassley is 89. On the other hand, FL Gov. Ron DeSantis is 45, and CA Gov. Gavin Newsom is 56. House Speaker Mike Johnson is 51. I like the records of some politicians, but other politicians have been train wrecks. You can decide which is which, based on results. So here's my point for your consideration. I believe that most Americans are #conservative at their core, regardless of their political affiliations. Speaker Johnson recently published thes 7 core #principles of #conservatism. https://lnkd.in/gZeyfGgj I agree with ALL of them. And if you'll take the time to read them, I think you'll agree with them, too. But if not, please tell me why -specifically - in your comments.

STL Community Leader 🐦 Entrepreneurial Spirit 💪 BIPOC and Latinx Advocate ☮️ Talent Development 🙌 Business Growth 📈 Multi-cultural coach and mentor
As we navigate through a challenging time for our communities, the words of Elie Wiesel resonate profoundly: "We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." Today, I find myself reflecting on these powerful words as we confront a series of anti-immigrant sentiments affecting not only St. Charles and Jefferson County but reaching into the halls of the 2024 Missouri legislative session, it is easy to feel a sense of powerlessness. Elie Wiesel's wisdom reminds us that inaction only strengthens those who perpetuate injustice. We have the ability to shape the narrative, to speak up against discrimination, and to advocate for policies that reflect the values of compassion and justice. HB 1401's "show me your papers" provision threatens to strip individuals of our dignity. The time is now to channel our collective power, to educate, to engage, and to demand a better, more inclusive future for all. By taking a stand against these unjust resolutions and bills, we affirm our commitment to a community built on principles of unity, understanding, and shared humanity. 📢 Amplifying Our Voices 📢 I encourage each of you to lend your voice to this important cause. Share information, engage in conversations, and reach out to your representatives. Let us be the advocates our community needs, amplifying our voices in the face of injustice.
