The circular economy of the automotive industry will definitely make the world a greener place. Perhaps, the real answer to sustainability lies in reusing existing materials with more efficient engines, be it electric, combustion or hybrid.

The HIF is part of this project and contributes its expertise in material recognition using spectroscopy-based #sensor technology together with efficient data processing solutions. Through improved #recycling products, the Car2Car project aims to increase the proportion of secondary materials in new vehicles as a prerequisite for closing material loops in a #CircularEconomy. "Metals and plastics are often found closely interconnected in end-of-life products. Therefore, we want to further develop the sensor technology so that it allows to not only distinguish between metals and polymers, but also to identify the specific types of the materials. This would be essential for increasing the quality of recycling products as the key prerequisite for the reuse of raw materials contained in end-of-life vehicles" - Margret C. Fuchs #rawmaterials

#325 There is a lot of talk about the electrification of the car industry, but much less about its recycling – another critical element for this industry to become more sustainable (circular). Fortunately, the traditional scrapyards (cf photo left) are becoming a thing of the past. What used to be shabby businesses where people would look for cheap spare parts are increasingly seeing the implementation of advanced production technologies – but for disassembling cars (cf right). Today (in theory) around 95% by weight of a car can be reused or recycled. And reusing parts requires about 15% of the energy, and produces about 30% of the carbon emissions, compared to making a new part from scratch. But still too many cars (parts) are not reprocessed properly, and the operations need to be adapted to electric vehicles that require a different handling. The objective should be to develop circular car factories where disassembly occurs in the same facility and all car components are eventually reused and recycled. #operationsmanagement

Founder & CEO Y-Mobility- Create, Cultivate and Connect the future of Mobility and Autonomous driving
I was having quite an interesting conversation with a business partner about industries within the circular economy and got me thinking about the automotive industry. What do you think are really important sustainability practices needed in the automotive industry? The automotive industry is experiencing environmental challenges linked to resource consumption and waste generation. I think some circular economy principles can be quite usefully applied to the industry. What can we do? Design for Sustainability: Prioritise eco-friendly materials, modular designs, and easily recyclable components during the vehicle design phase. Extended Product Lifespan: Encourage vehicle owners to maintain and repair their cars, extending the lifespan of vehicles through modular designs that facilitate component replacement. Remanufacturing and Refurbishment: Promote the restoration of used automotive parts to a like-new condition, reducing the demand for new materials and minimising waste. End-of-Life Recycling: Emphasise responsible disposal of vehicles, ensuring efficient recycling processes to recover and reuse materials such as metals and plastics. Consumer Awareness and Participation: Launch education and awareness campaigns to create a circular economy mindset in consumers, empowering them to contribute to industry sustainability. With circular economy principles we can contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly automotive industry. What practices do you think are important? #ElectricVehicles #AutonomousDriving #SoftwareDefinedVehicles #Automotive

Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles | Transformational Leader | Bringing years of experience in elevating performance, enhancing CX, and driving strategic growth
In a circular economy model, vehicles are designed with longevity and recyclability in mind. This involves optimizing manufacturing processes to minimize waste and ensuring easy disassembly and recycling at the end of the vehicle's life. Embracing the principles of the circular economy is a moral imperative as well as a strategic necessity. The circular economy extends beyond the vehicle itself to encompass the entire automotive ecosystem. There are great initiatives out there that encompass this idea such as car-sharing, ride-sharing, and leasing models to promote the efficient use of vehicles to maximize their life span. #CircularEconomy #Vehicle #Innovation

Over 700,000 vehicles reach their end of first life and are discarded in Australia every year, but what if those vehicle engines could be kept in circulation? Original Engines Co tackles this issue by working in partnership with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to bring engines back to their original condition, ready to be reused. The engines have extended warranties and longer service lives than reconditioned car engines, while slashing greenhouse gas emissions and material and water use. Find out why and how the company embraced circular economy principles as key to the business at https://lnkd.in/gft3AHca. #remanufacturing #circulareconomy #automotive

Have you ever wondered what happens when you press a button in your car? Who delivers the information to the various organs to make them work? Let me introduce myself - I am the copper wire, the unsung hero of your vehicle. ⚡️ I am the ideal electrical conductor for car wiring, thanks to my excellent electrical conductivity, of course, but also thanks to my durability, my workability and my excellent recyclability! It's simple: I can be recycled forever! Weighing an average of 80kg in an electric vehicle, I am the lifeline that keeps your car running smoothly and efficiently. But my story doesn't end there. Thanks to the innovative practices of INDRA AUTOMOBILE RECYCLING, I am rescued from end-of-life vehicles and given a new purpose. My journey continues at #GAIAautorecycling, where I am meticulously recycled in a closed loop, ready to be reborn in a new car... 🔄. This closed-loop recycling process, from end-of-life car to new car, is not only a tangible commitment to sustainability, but also a demonstration of how we can help the automotive industry limit its impact on resources. 🌱 Want to know what other components are part of this cycle? 👀 Stay tuned for more stories from THE FUTURE IS NEUTRAL, where innovation meets responsibility. #TheFutureIsNeutral #CircularEconomy #CopperCable #SustainableMobility
