The future starts with Hydrogen!

Incredible! A hydrogen truck with a 1,000km range and fuel efficiency of 8kg/100km (which equals to approximately 3.75L diesel / km). This would require about 80kg of on-board storage, which would only be feasible at 750bar compression or liquid H2 (but very very expensive) The typical Class 8 truck currently has a fuel efficiency of ~3.5L/km depending on its payload and driving conditions, representing a fuel efficiency improvement of just under 10% (far below the theoretical efficiencies of FCEV drivetrains...) There remain significant technical and commercial challenges to getting hydrogen trucks on the road, but announcements like these are promising. Hopefully it's not just another hype-building announcement - I don't know how many more disappointments the hydrogen trucking industry can handle...

Interesting development in the future of FCEV technology and hydrogen power.

Hydrogen Mobility (Toyota FCV - Mirai: 2014) The Mirai uses the Toyota Fuel Cell System (TFCS), which features both fuel cell technology and hybrid technology, and includes Toyota's new proprietary FC Stack and high-pressure hydrogen tanks. The TFCS is more energy efficient than internal combustion engines and emits no CO2 or substances of concern (SOCs) when driven. Drivers can also expect the same level of convenience as offered by gasoline engine vehicles, with a generous cruising range and a hydrogen refueling time of about three minutes.
