Receiving exam results can be daunting. I say this based on personal experience, sometimes results are not what we you were expecting. With the Scottish Highers results coming out last week, A-level results being received today, and GCSE results next week, it could be time to pivot on previous plans. The first step is to stay calm and explore your options. Be open to change, it may not have been what you planned, but that doesn’t mean the end of what you wanted to do. You may just need to take a different route to get there. It could also open up different opportunities that you have not fully explored previously. A plan is just that, a plan. Nothing is set in stone and a plan is a guide to get you somewhere. A plan in all walks of life will usually always require some adaptation. #LimitlessLeadership #LeadershipDevelopment #LearningAndDevelopment #ExamResults

🎙️ An inspiring story on GCSE Results Day! Today is GCSE results day, a time filled with excitement and nervous anticipation for students and parents alike. The pressure to perform well is enormous, but at Servo, we know that success comes in many forms and often follows non-traditional paths. Our CEO, James Mallinson CFP Chartered FCSI shared his own journey earlier this year on the County Business Clubs Sussex 100, Different Hats podcast, offering a powerful message of resilience and determination: “I failed my maths GCSE three times; I still only have a D grade now, and I'm not ashamed to say it. I’ve earned a Masters in Finance through hard work, all outside the traditional education system. I left college after a year with nothing because I didn’t put in the effort. I didn’t go to university. Despite this, I went on to run a finance company and have a successful career in the city. It took a lot of hard work. "Failing in the education system led me to work opportunities that eventually got me headhunted into recruitment, my first proper job in London, through the brother of an ex-girlfriend. It just goes to show, it's not what you know, but who you know, how you present yourself, and demonstrating your capabilities.” James, who has two children of his own navigating the educational system, is a testament to the idea that setbacks can pave the way for remarkable achievements. The Directors Club 🤝 by Aston Business School As a current Aston MBA with a professional background in consulting (Commercial Real Estate Finance), I recently had the privilege of participating in The Directors Club, an exclusive initiative for MBA students and alumni by the Aston Business School. What sets this club apart is not just the networking opportunities it provides, but also the thought-provoking talks delivered by experts. The first two events, held on January 10 and April 3, 2024, provided an excellent opportunity to gain valuable insights from a diverse range of experts spanning both academia and industry. Professor Shivani Sharma, the Deputy Dean of People, Culture and Inclusion at Aston University  sherry-ann besla, Aston Alumni, Procurement Manager - Regional Municipality of Peel  Zoë Kibbey, Aston Alumni and Leader of Global Inclusion & Diversity team at Accenture.  Professor Andy Lymer, Professor of Taxation and Personal Finance at Aston University Jonathan Miller, Sales Director at Partners& Special thanks to Ian Cornelius for hosting the sessions on such wonderful themes - ‘Leadership and Diversity’ and ‘Economics in Adversity’. As someone who believes in creating better solutions and adding value, I found inspiration among these forward-thinking individuals.  One significant lesson I took away from these events is the importance of approaching problems scientifically, backed by thorough research. I just turned the last page on my MBA, and wow, what a ride it’s been! Reflecting back, I've gone from being a technology professional (and proud of it) to navigating the high seas of business leadership in the life insurance world. Deciding to pursue an MBA was like deciding to leap without seeing the net. It was all about strategy, leadership, and understanding the heartbeat of a business. It wasn't easy juggling work, studies, and personal life, but every late night and every coffee fueled study session was worth it. I couldn’t have done this without a boatload of support.
